Cannot believe a Dealer in good conscious charge an hour to program, unless the hourly rate is over $200/hr The TSB says the dealer flat rate charge is .6 hour. That is including remove old unit, install new unit, and then program remotes.

 

As of Jan 1st there is a TSB that addresses this poor distance performance of remote start. TSB #16-001 the dealer will install a new module and 2 key fobs for free if your within the 4 year 50,000 mile factory warrantee, after that is out, I'm not sure what the process is but you can wheel and deal with the dealer. This seems to be either a bug, or a 100% useless feature or safety precaution. If not, I'm quite curious to learn the reasoning behind this design. It is however in line with the manual, which says: "Pess LOCK, then press and hold ENGINE. The amber LED blinks, and the green LED stays solid for one second when the engine starts. You can repeat this onceat any time within 10 minutes of the initial remote start for a 10-minute extension."

On the other hand, according to this official video at around 1m:25s, "The engine may not start if: [...] Remote has been used twice in quick succession to start the engine", which is rather vague and likely inaccurate. What exactly is "quick succession"? I only ever tested with 2 hours, which the MDX thinks is "quick". Is it really the case that after 2 starts, there's simply no other way but physically go to the car?
