MDX prices paid and deals

Are used MDXers welcome? Last month purchased a 2015 MDX SH-AWD black/ebony with tech package. 120K miles for $17,175 before trade-in, taxes, fees, etc. I traded in my wife's rusty 2009 Cadillac SRX 140K miles and got $1850 for it. For now, we are an Acura family.

Hi, wondering if you can share the name of the Norca acura dealer ? because I’m currently looking to purchase a 2020 MDX a-spec, the local dealer send of an offer of $54K OTD (MSRP $55k) base on my zipcode 95828 and 3.99% APR. Any thoughts of the offer ? Thanks in advance.

On the 2020 Hybrid MDX with Tech Package
Price before tax: $42200
Out the door: $45500
Down payment: $25500
Financed with AHFC: $20000 @ 0% for 24 months.
If I had more time, I could have gotten lower price at other dealership.

Arlington Acura in Palatine, IL. But this was not the lowest, Pauly Acura gave me $41,600 but wasn't sure whether they would be able to give me 0% APR financing.
Muller Acura in Schaumburg, IL quoted $47100 for the Hybrid with Advance package. Didn't go with this because I needed the 2nd row bench.

I will be in the same boat in August and I think I will expand my search to New York and Massachusetts dealers. The pricing I see in Connecticut is not comparable to the deals I see here and on Edmunds. Lack of competition is likely the reason.

Received an offer on a 2018 CPO sport-hybrid advance with 47000 miles on it for $38,000 (38,672 with tags/fees which I might be able to negotiate down?). The price considering the mileage gives me pause especially the posts above indicating quotes for 2020 hybrid advances for around 47k. 9k for a new car makes the CPO seem like not such a good deal but curious to see what others thought. Thanks.

Hi, I was looking for price paid for and Acura MDX and found this forum. As stated I am interested in purchasing the SH-AWD Tech Package. I best quote(MSRP not OTD) I have received in NorCal so far is $41.5k. Some of the members/earlier posts have mentioned an MSRP of $40k in NorCal. Could someone please let me know the dealerships. I am looking for dealers around the bay area.

I purchased my 2018 Hybrid for $48k.

IMO, I would definitely purchase new if you can swing $47K to $48K before TT&L. In order to get this price you will have to be patient and shop around. Don't limit yourself to your local dealer(s) either. I suggest around a 500 to 600 mile radiius and have it shipped.

Thanks for the replies. Received a quote of 54,000 for a 2020 Sport Hybrid Advance. This was through Costco so I might be able to do better but not sure about 7k better. I'm going to see if the other dealer will come down a bit on the 2018 but otherwise keep shopping around.

looking for advice going to pull the trigger very soon been studying I spoke to three dealerships already. 2019 or 2020 models of each is our goal with less than 10 k... trying to save some money on a 10,000 mile or less car
Torn between MDX and RDX, six cylinders versus four-cylinder turbo long run maintenance costs, gas mileage does the cylinder management on the MDX claim to get as good as gas mileage is a four-cylinder turbo RDX? Sure is nice to have that third row seating once in a while I bet it comes in handy but my wife and I are 60 years old and don’t need anything larger than the Rdx. But if we can get the same gas mileage in the MDX I believe that six cylinder engine will be far less maintenance cost than the four-cylinder turbo ....I plan on keeping 10 years
Thanks in advance for your advice/comments

I would see about doing an extended test drive of both vehicles in the trim level you want to purchase. I was trying to decide between the +19 RDX or +19 MDX when I was ready to purchase (already had an 08 RDX turbo and 11 MDX). Maint schedule for my sh-awd 08 RDX and 11 MDX both were exactly the same with the exception of a shorter 5000 miles oil change interval for the 08 turbo RDX compared to +9000 miles for the MDX (not sure if the oil change interval is longer with the +19 RDX). What leaned me towards the MDX was the road noise from the rear of the RDX, can't add a full size spare to the RDX, 2nd row didn't recline on the RDX, turbo was needed a lot with the 2.0L engine (lowing mpgs), and 10AT can be a little slow to downshift along with turbo needing time to spool for quick get-a-ways.
Whichever model you decide on, the sh-awd versions drive and handle better than the fwd models.

- The RDX Turbo is a chain-driven motor, and the MDX v6 is a belt. When you get to 100K miles you'll need to do a $1k+/- timing belt replacement job on the v6. The 4cyl turbo in the RDX won't need it - but there may be turbo maintenance or issues at that mileage. Hard to tell.
- In regards to the transmission it's the ZF 9-speed in the MDX and the Honda 10-speed in the RDX. You'll see some folks love the ZF9 and other folks hate it. I've found (moving from a 17 MDX to a 19 MDX) that the 9 speed is a decent transmission and should hold up. The 10 speed Honda one is pretty new so not a lot of background. If you go with the hybrid MDX you get a 7 speed transmission which has a better track record. None of these are show-stoppers, IMHO, as the ZF9 is about as good as it's been in the 19/20 MDX's... (improvements...)
- MPG's are going to be real similar between them. I can get 27 MPG's or higher in my MDX on the highway if I play nice with it, and I can get 23-ish around town. But if you push it, mileage drops. The RDX isn't too much different.
- Size. If you need comfortable seating for people in the second row and need periodic 3rd row access, the MDX is the only option. If you haul larger things then the MDX is much better. I found they both "feel" the same from a driving point of view. But the MDX feels much larger inside - less claustrophobic. If that matters to you.
- Infotainment. You've gotta decide on your own which you prefer. Most will say the newer infotainment screen and touch-pad in the RDX is a vast improvement. My wife and I prefer the 2-screen layout in the MDX. Why? Bigger font size :-) It's tough for me to read all the info that the RDX tosses at you - from the info near the speedo to the new smaller-print nav/info screen. We have the same setup in my MDX and the wife's RLX and we find that it's more than adequate for what we need. But this is something you need to decide for yourself.
- Overall smoothness vs sporty feel. The RDX is much sportier in terms of feel - smaller, more reactive to turns, quicker acceleration (and louder motor) - it just feels like a smaller but sportier car. The MDX is a much smoother (comparatively) ride. It handles well and you can hear the motor when you boot it - but the RDX is a step above. But on a long trip I'd rather be in the MDX vs the RDX since it'd be easier on the ears and comfort level.

Wow, great responses and information!
On the financial side I don’t know how smart it is to take the entire amount out of our savings account to pay for the car the same day, I plan on keeping this car 10 or more years! Maybe USAA 35 yr member.....Acura or Honda financing can give us 0% for 36 months or similar

andysinnh gave a good summary. Very similar to the thought process and driving experience we had.
The RDX does have a couple of things the MDX didn't have. True Heads up display, swipe your foot tailgate raise, car phone, wifi, remote start from your phone.
And after using the MDX dual display, while it seems to get panned heavily we've learned it quite quick and now like it. Some of the comments say it takes 5 movements to change heated seat temp. Nope, one, just tap the heated seat button, similar with other things, it just takes really looking through the manual. But then the MDX STILL (one of the few) has a CD player! all we use it for is books on tape on the road, and while it wasn't a make or break deal, for us it is nice. No need to convert a book on tape to thumb drive. Just pick it up from the library.
2nd row seating, yes the MDX wins hands down, especially with the advanced package heated, reclining sliding rear seats. 3rd row, well for us it just adds trunk space. While our young grandkids fit in them fine, It's punishment for adults.
Noise. We really noticed the road noise in the RDX on rough pavement, like pavement chewed up by studded tires. It really drummed on the RDX. And interior noise seemed higher as well, although with the sunroof shade completely closed it did reduce noise. The MDX was still very quite on the same roads. We actually drove the exact same test route on the MDX and RDX back to back to compare the cars.
Sunroof, Good news, bad news. The MDX has a much smaller sunroof, basically for front seat, RDX huge sunroof, great for the backseat as well. But as mentioned I think it results in more noise.
MIleage: We have the hybrid MDX. While they claim 27 mpg in town, that can vary quite a bit. The motor runs till the car warms up enough, so on short trips you won't use the hybrid battery as much. The result is that our couple mile trips in the morning to the gym are around 20mpg indicated. 10-15 mile around town, I've seen 30. So in town mileage is likely to vary a great deal depending on how far your trips are and how cold the temps are. But I'd bet that based on the EPA estimates the difference between the MDX and RDX are close enough that I wouldn't make a decision based on that

Just purchased 2020 MDX Advance SH-AWD, traded in 2016 RLX Advance PAWS.
The MDX price was 51k. Think it s a great deal.
Bradshaw Acura
Loved the TLX PMC, but that was not in the cards.

Way too high for used. You can buy new 2020 tech for 20+% off Msrp. I got 22.5% off 2020 A-spec on Labor Day including the dealer installed options I wanted. Walk away from a 2019 @ $49k imho

I have been lurking for a while as there is a ton of good info on this board, but thanks to a close encounter with bambi I am now in the market for a new to me car in a relatively short time frame.
I am very interested in the hybrid MDX, in my area there are a few options from 2018 and 2020 model years. I am looking at the Advance package on each. I have not had the time to compare feature to feature between the 2018 model year and the 2020 model year. Has anybody compiled a table of differences or know of big ones off the top of their head?
Thanks in advance

Hi All, Just picked up a 2016 SH-AWD Tech package with a tow package installed. 65K on the clock and looks and drives brand new. Serviced and maintained at the dealer with a clean carfax. Paid 21,500 for it at a Toyota dealership. Sales manager was pissed...

Like moose66 said, no difference between the 18-20 hybrid tech or adv model years other than price. You will just get an extended standard warranty period with a 2020 compared to a 2018. A CPO will extend the 4/50 basic and 6/70 powertrain to 6/100k bumper-to-bumper and 7/100k powertrain.

Thanks for the info. I ended up buying a 2020 hybrid advance in platinum white with ~6k miles for 48k this afternoon. Just a slight upgrade from my Prius plugin...

Good price. When I traded in my base awd 2016 in the summer at 63k miles, they gave me 20k for it. they relisted it a week later for $25k
