Engine Noise

Very recently picked up my 2018 MDX Tech at 135k KM. I did spark plugs and the PCV and it seems like the car is louder than before. Almost sounds like an air compressor inside the vehicle, but is fairly faint. I know these Acura motors can have a bit of a tick so wondering if this is normal? A/C is off and timing belt/tensioner done about 20k KM ago.

Is there any indication as to when or if the factory timing belt & associated components have been changed?

 

Yes, about 20,000km ago at 110,000km. Are you thinking it’s a tensioner? I’m used to VW cars so it just sounds like a fuel pump. Seems a bit loud to me but may be normal. Don’t have experience with the Honda 3.5 v6.

or injectors, idk. Mostly wondering if it sound normal.

 

is the ticking sound following the RPMs? maybe its the camshaft... hope not!

 

Nope, just a consistent ticking. More so wondering if other owners car sound like this. I have no idea what these are supposed to sound like. Just seems kinda loud to me for a luxury suv. Thanks.

 

The direct injection in the MDX v6 is very loud and noticeable. At first listen it sounds like something is really off - but they all sound that way :-)
