Cracking noise from front suspension in reverse

2020 MDX tech, 55,000 miles, owned since new.

About a month ago, we started hearing this cracking/breaking noise coming from the front right suspension when backing out of the driveway with the wheel turned. Within a few days, the noise was happening much more frequently, including when backing out of parking spots.

We’ve had the car at Acura twice now to fix the problem. Each time they have told us that they are able to hear the noise, so that’s a good thing. The first time they just loosened and tighten various suspension parts, but that didn’t resolve the problem. The second time they replaced the front left axle, but here we are again a week later and the noise is still there.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Thank you. We don’t hear the noise while driving. Only when backing up and only with the wheel turned. Does that change your opinion?

Under normal circumstances, when reversing and then braking, the pads may make a striking noise as they have a small amount of slack within the calipers. If they last braking operation was while moving forward, then the first time braking in reverse will create an audible noise. I'm just wandering if this could be related to the problem you are describing.

Thank you. I know the braking noise you’re referring to, but I’m pretty sure it’s related to the steering. It happens as the wheel is being turned. It’s back at Acura now. They hear the noise clearly, just aren’t able to diagnose ir yet.

Thank you. Did yours make the sound while backing up and while turning the steering wheel?

The car is still at Acura. They hooked up a bunch of remote microphones under the car. They can hear the noise clearly but still haven’t been able to diagnose where it’s coming from.

After having the car for a few weeks, Acura is now saying that they think the sound is coming from a popped body weld. Not sure what that means but they are basically saying that the car is structurally sound and there’s nothing more they can do. The car is Acura certified for another 18 months. I’m not exactly sure where we should go from here.

Any ideas?

thank you. It could be any one of those things, but Acura at this point is saying that there’s nothing more they can do. And it’s not as if the noise is slight, it’s loud and it sounds like something is breaking or popping. The car is under certified warranty for the next 18 months. we’re not really sure what to do. I suppose we could take it to another dealer, but I assume that they would see all of the notes in the service history.
