Car2Play adapter

Has anybody use the car2play adapter for wireless Apple car play?
I am tempted but a bit hesitant because you need to disconnect your phone from the car’s hand free connection.

I bought one. I just put it in tonight. I haven't gone out for a drive with it to test how WAZE works with it. It does take a good 30 seconds when you first start your car to connect up. I haven't tried phone calls either. I mostly use mine for music and navigation. After I play around a little more I'll be able to tell you a little more.

Is your phone the only one paired to the vehicle? Let us know how it works with multiple phone and switching between them for the wireless carplay.

I heard that with the new firmware, the iphone gets paired much quicker.

Is this the same as the CarPlay2Air adapter I have just started seeing advertised on the web for around $130? If so, all of your early adopters need to fill us in on how it works!

So after reading a little more and reviewing some Youtube videos, I see this new tool only works with vehicles that have existing CarPlay functionality. It does nothing for those of us who may own a vehicle without CarPlay (RLX owners). That was what I was getting excited about. Oh well.

correct. The gadget simply bridges the existing usb car play connection with Bluetooth so the iphone picks it up wirelessly .

It might work with our RLX's ipod setting? Pretty expensive way to test if it does work.

Is there any way to get Apple Car Play in our vehicles? My 2017 doesn’t have it, and I’d really like to have it...!

Happy to report that that installation and firmware update took no more than 2-3 minutes. The connection between the iphone and the unit takes less than 20 seconds.
The adapter does work as advertised and I have full steering wheel controls, which I was not expecting.
The catch is that every once in awhile I get garbled audio from Pandora or Waze.
Definitively worth $150 for the functionality it gives.
Surprisingly it doesnt seem to work with the more advanced infotainment system of the RDX although the web site says that it is compatible with it.

How does work if you don't want the carplay features to display on navi screen?

I have two USB plugs depending if I want to use carplay or just charge my phone. If I use the carplay plug to just charge the phone, the smart phone enable carplay at random times showing map data and playing random music from my phone. I've had several smartphone updates since then and don't know if it does it now.

After a couple of days of use the bugs started to creep in.
* The steering control for skipping Pandora songs works occasionally.
* Although the phone connects to CarPlay, sometimes Pandora will not start. I have to launch it from the iphone.
* The audio garble seems to happen when running Pandora and Waze at the same time. I say seems because some times I can ran both with no issue.
* The Acura Pandora source is disabled and will only work through CarPlay.

So my “definitely worth” from before is now more a “probably worth”.

^^^^Wonder how quickly they do firmware updates? Provided users such as yourself will give them great feedback on what isn't working as you would expect.

Could it be from too many smartphone apps running in the back ground causing the intermittent issues? I sometimes have +10 apps still running and constantly updating sometimes if I don't close them down occasionally (restart is better). The only other thing could be cell data speed depending of signal strength of your current location. I have that issue with my Comcast cable every Friday and Saturday night when the whole figgin' neighborhood is online/streaming. I end up getting slow speeds and garbled video streaming sometimes.

Take a look at GROM VLINE2
https://gromaudio.com/store/vline/al...n-upgrade.html

I have this in my Lexus GS. Works beautifully! Best infotainment upgrade.

I dont think that is the issue. In general I am very anal about closing the apps I dont use. I close everything 2-3 times a day.
The signal with the carrier is a possibility. My theory is that the Bluetooth throughput may be maxxed out.

Today the darn adapter froze a couple of times and the only way out of it was unplugging it.

At this pace, my “probably worth it” will soon become “probably not worth it”...

The thing is that when it works, it works great! Why does it have to be so buggy?

surprisingly pretty well. It has not frozen in months and the audio is not garbled anymore.
The only bug that occasionally happens is that the CarPlay screen sometimes will not start automatically. I have to press Info button and then the CarPlay button.
