Adding remote start to a '15 Tech MDX

Here is what I am looking at buying: 38015-TZ5-A10
Here are the instructions I will be using: Link

My question is about the "registration". My dealer wants an hour (or $110) just to complete the registration. They also quoted me 2.5 hours to install this thing which is crazy. I am all for support local but I dont support local price gouging. Is there a way to do this without taking it to the dealer?

Thank you.

the remotes need to be programmed by the dealer, otherwise the car will not recognize them and wont work.

You can install on your own. Not too bad to do. Mandatory getting the remote programmed. Yes, it is a rip what they charge. Be sure that is the correct part#. I know it was updated to improve range.

Installation is easy. I did it myself with help from a youtube vid. Key programming should run you 60 bucks. Its not hard and shouldnt take long. Its just a program they have. 110 is a rip off

$110 is a rip off. I would get your sales person to get a tech to install it "outside the shop". I did just that and only paid $60 for labor. I bought the part off eBay from Curry Acura.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will work on the shop. I will not pay that much out of principal.

Can anyone verify 38015-TZ5-A10 is the correct part number with the extended range?

Thanks again!

I just brought home a 2014 Tech this past week and just found it has Remote Start. But it doesn't have the Remote Start specific remote.

I found that that when I press the Unlock button on remote 3 times it starts. Definitely something my dealer didn't know was installed.

Anyone else lucky to find this out?

Also have oem oem dogs and running boards.

Ryan_C - just tried to remote start the 2014 I just picked up, and no go. You must be the only lucky one!
