Acura MDX to have 10 speed transmission

Technology Preview: We Drive Honda's 10-Speed Automatic Transmission

Cue all the whiners and haters: It shifts too much. It gear hunts. It has too many gears.......

Just hope Honda will have done enough real-life tests driving the 10-speed auto vehicle in the congested cities, under all possible stop-and-go scenarios.

It would seem some type of hybrid tech would be the best way to same mpgs. I'm not going to save very much fuel at 75-80 mph posted hwy speeds in the southwest. I would love to get around 25-27 in a future MDX in my daily commute instead of 17-18 on a good day and 14-15 on a bad on my current one.

I think Honda learned its lesson about letting someone else design a transmission for its car, like the ZF. Latest consumer reports magazine shows 2015 MDX and 2014-15 TLX as having reliability issues, with the headline being around transmission problems. Looks like Honda engineers understand the shortcomings in design by ZF, and are out to make it Right going forward.. His test drive was encouraging for sure... Hopefully when my 2014 MDX 6 speed is ready for retirement, the new 4th Generation MDX will be out with the 10 speed built and engineered by Honda.. BTW, my neighbor purchased a 2015 Jeep, been in the shop 4 times all related to the transmission, UNREAL!!!

I talked to my neighbor yesterday about his Jeep... Now they want to replace the entire transmission for him.. He decided to file for the California Lemon Law, and get his money back, and go get a Toyota 4 Runner, if he can... Car only has 1350 miles on it. I am thinking of going over to the jeep blog and see what they are saying over at that site, may shed some perspective on this 10 speed issue. I think Honda and Acura will take care of any issues related to 10 speeds.. WOW, raining in southern california, time for some MUD off road fun with the SH-AWD!

Why don't they just put a CVT in?

Please no CVT. Had one in my Civic and would not even consider a MDX if it came with one.

Those tend to have...issues with even moderate torque. Mostly around reliability.

CVTs have been a nightmare for Nissan and Infiniti. They are junk.
