A14 Service is this expensive?
Hey everyone
I’m doing my a14 service at Acura for my 2014 rlx and 2014 mdx. The rlx is at 100k miles and mdx 106k miles.
I do my own oil and rotation so I am not doing those on both cars. What I am doing for both cars are is the ‘4’(which is the timing belt and related parts, water pump, and spark plugs, coolant flush) and a brake fluid flush(fluid flush quoted 109.00 for each car).
I am being quoted 2450 each car, or 4900 for both.
Isn’t this amount excessive? I was expecting 1500 at most for both. Is nearly 2500 the normal price for the ‘4’ service.
as a side note, I am posting this in the rlx forum as well

It's the timing belts that are the killer.

Being in LA doesn't help matters either, especially when using the dealership service department. What does help being in LA, is you should be able to find a local Honda/Acura repair shop that could cut that price down quite a bit. There has bound to be several good shops out there doing good work on Hondas/Acuras. Hell, speaking of Hondas, you could even try a Honda dealership.

Check your local Honda dealers for service specials. Here's one from Downtown Honda -Timing Belt replacement $395.95(water pump inspection but not replacement) - https://www.hondaoflosangeles.com/specials/service.htm
Ask them for the water pump and tensioner & whole enchilada. Honda dealers service Acuras all the time for less $$$, same engine same part only different part number.

If your able to do your own oil change then do the brake fluid flush, coolant and spark plugs yourself or have a mechanic buddy help you.
I would find a local shop that specializes in Honda/Acura vehicles for the tensioner and water pump.

Thanks for everyone’s input! I’ll get into looking at doing the plugs and coolant myself, never thought about doing them, always fun to learn.
damn that’s a deal. I’ll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks Sparky

Ding ding ding! We have a winner. That is the best advice you can get. For major stuff (not warranty) I ALWAYS use the cheaper and more convenient local Honda dealer over Acura. If they give you a list of parts ahead of time, you can but them direct for cheaper and bring them in with you for the service.
