2019 MDX Tech Navigation not tracking

2019 MDX Tech Navigation not tracking

Just picked up 2019 MDX tech package. The tracking on the navigation is nowhere close on the map. Dealer reset the software and Acuralink also had me do this through the settings tab. The service manager said that it has been an issue for years and that Acura has no fix??? Very frustrating to pay for the navigation and it not work. Has anyone had this issue and found a fix?

I've only had that issue when I was traveling in my 11 MDX in Toas, NM, and I wasn't able to pick up enough satellites in the valley. It returned to normal after about 15-20 mins of driving around town.

Do you have access to Waze with carplay?

I’ve had this issue with my 17 tech since day 1. There is a TSB on the issue that didn’t work, and the dealer has replaced the head unit, nav unit and antenna with limited improvement. Even today it will not track every couple of weeks. Symptom is at first start and for 10 minutes of driving it can’t track, then it wakes up and behaves normally from there. Maddening.

I'd agree if the only place it happens is coming out of my driveway, but I have had it happen at other locations (including in upstate NY last fall). Plus none of my other Acuras over the years have had this issues at home, including the wife's RLX that shares the garage/driveway. It's maddening because while I will have my wife take videos when it happens while I'm driving, the dealer has never been able to reproduce it on their own since it's hit-or miss. The good news is that they've gone above and beyond to try and replace things, so I give them a ton of credit for that. At this point I'm just going to likely turn it in at the end of the lease and just sort of shrug my shoulders until then.

That's a weird one. Where are you located? Something interfering with GPS signal? What about another dealerships service department? You can even do Honda if an Acura dealership is not close by.

So one thing you should know - the GPS antenna is directly underneath your radar detector. One thing to try in your situation is to move the detector closer to one side or the other (L/R) of the windshield and let the antenna have a clear path to the sky and see what happens.

I know that in my case I had that thought about interference, and I had my EZpass transponder near the mirror and thought it might be interfering. Turns out in my case it wasn't, but it's something you can easily try with your setup.....

I'm more curious why you're using Acura's navi instead of AA/CP with Gmaps or Waze lol

But yeahhh.. that's definitely a problem... so when it started in 17, there were multiple complaints about it but I didn't see many 18s complain about it. But obviously, there's still a prob in 19. And this wasn't a problem for 14s-16s, but 17 was also when changes occured like HD radio for traffic instead of whatever we had for old traffic (some debate of GSM vs XM). According to part numbers, from 16-19 all have the same exact GPS antenna (even the one for the TCU (telematics control unit.. the one that handles cell signal for Acuralink)). Along with andy's experiences and the tsb, it looks like they still can't get the software correct for different environments. One thing you may want to check is the number of satellite fixes you have with your phone (plenty of apps for this) when this problem occurs vs when it is ok. Wonder if the car is just having a hard time pinning down a location when there's sparse coverage from the satellites (this is partly why GPS assist tech using cellular tower triangulation has been developed over the years).

If you're daring, you can press the "Menu, Maps, and Cancel" buttons at the same time and pull up several tabs that allow you to do a diagnostic check on satellite connectivity as well as a whole lot of other things to keep you in awe for at least 2 days.
