2017 MDX Spare Tire Available?
#2
Acura did give you a spare tire with the 14-16 MDX with sh-awd (spare, tools, and hardware to mount under hatch)? You probably can't use the spares from the 14-16 MDXs because they changed the bolt pattern (or just go for a full size spare). Are you looking to purchase fwd or sh-awd?

I would check with your local dealership and compare prices on-line to add the sh-awd spare tire hardware to your fwd MDX Adv. I would skip the donut spare because it can cost more than a rim+spare tire from Tire Rack. I upgraded my rims on my 11 MDX to 20" aftermarket and used the OEM 19" rim as a full size spare. I found a Conti DWS 06 tire on eBay for $75 with 85-90% tread left to mount/balance on the OEM rim.

FWD = No spare. Sealant Kit + air pump.
AWD = Spare under the car.
The 2017 does not appear to have a kit available yet. The 2014-2016s had a full size wheel for AWDs available that was about $400 not including the tire or the donut kit for the FWDs for about $200 not including the tire. Considering an optional Berlina 20" rim is about $400 without tires as well, I am inclined to agree with mrgold that you should probably just skip the donut, but since you are FWD, OP, it's up to you.

Hybrid
Family member just purchased a 2017 Acura MDX Hybrid Advance & the sales manager said it came with a spare. We do not see 1 under the car and cannot find any concrete place where it says if a hybrid does or does not - could someone please chime in?
Thanks!
Edited to say they found the tire inflater kit so I guess it does not come with a spare. Does anyone know if you can buy the spare as an option? I ponder if the battery pack tacks up too much room so there is no place to put it? When you build it on Acura.com the spare tire is not even an accessory option.

I have a 2017 Hybrid and installed the compact spare tire myself. A full size would have fit but it does hang down a bit underneath the car and my wife did not like how that looked. The cost was over $560 from the dealer, I ordered the hoist, lug wrench, wheel and attaching bolts from an on line source and the tire from Tire Rack,
total cost under $200, install time under 10 minutes. The battery is under the drivers seat, computer under the 2nd row seat, the underneath area where the spare tire goes is clear, no issue.

From what I've seen, this rule still applies:
SH-AWD = comes with spare
FWD = no spare, inflation kit only
Sport Hybrid AWD (SHSHAWD) = no spare, inflation kit only
Does it seem like Acura did this maybe because they really want to decrease the rear end load on the rear motors? Kind of seems in line with the whole no towing and not even a hitch for bike racks recommendation.

A full size tire will fit in the spare tire well on the MDX. If you have a spare the owners manual instructs you to store the flat tire (full size) where the donut was. I checked it on mine and it fits fine but will hang down and be a bit visible under the rear valence.
