Tell me about your nuts

LUG NUTS, that is. And no comments on stock lugs please. Not sure how much discussion this will generate, but I'm curious.

Brand: Muteki, Project Kics, Work, Muteki, Rays, Gorilla, etc?

Material: Aluminium, steel, chromoly, etc?

Length: 35mm, 50mm, other lengths?

Type: Open or closed end?

Rim details: What rim, offset, etc? Picture of rim and lugs would be nice.

Use: Street, track, both, other....?

Wheel locks: other brand, came with set, etc? Are they a pain?

Other questions:

If you are using open ended lugs, do your lug studs rust?

Any issues with cross threading, seizing, etc?

Do you track the car?

Do the lugs help prevent scratching your rims when you replace/remove your wheels or do you just have to be extra careful?

Other comments welcome.

Here's feedback from a friend of mine

Brand: Rays

Material: Aluminium

Length: 50mm

Type: Closed end

Rim details: STI

Use: Street and auto-x

Wheel locks: Came with set, single spline locks are a pain because they look like all the other lugs, especially when working in low light and for quick mounting/dismounting at track

Other questions:

If you are using open ended lugs, do your lug studs rust? Closed end, no rust

Any issues with cross threading, seizing, etc? No

Do you track the car? Yes

Do the lugs help prevent scratching your rims when you replace/remove your wheels or do you just have to be extra careful? Extended lugs help a little, but not as much as floating head lugs like Project Kics R40

Do your own damn research!

This site has decent prices:

Along with eBay, Google Shopping, etc.

Any A'zine vendors want to offer some better deals? Haha.

i had blue muteki sr35 close ended short end lugs. they were one of the chepeast one's and i heard quality is decent.

i didn't end up using it though, since i sold my wheels. i did test fit them and it seems that although the lugs are durable, the paint comes off pretty easily. i use my hand to tighten and loosen them and some paint chipped off already

they also do not come with wheel locks.

i test fitted them with my old work emotion 11r

if you are low on cash, these might be good. but i might save up more for a set with locks.

Thanks for the info. It seems that most aluminium lugs with a color finish tends to chip/scratch easily, from what I've heard, even the more expensive ones like Rays and Work.

I know they are just lugs, I was hoping people would post on this thread since Im in the market for lugs... I was looking at the muteki sr48 in neo chrome- can get them for $90 shipped...

any feedback would be great and if it's worth the money?

...hope I'm not thread-jacking

No worries, the whole point of this thread was to discuss lugs. Ed's SR35s mentioned above are essentially the shorter version of the SR48s.

From feedback I've see, Project Kics seems to have good finish durability, but I'm not 100% sure.

These are awesome but I don't have $250 to spend on lugs. Floating, closed end.

You would then need a way to protect your lugs, in addition to your wheels, haha.
