Tein S. Tech Vs Tein SS

Hey I have been looking into dropping my car for quite some time now. Originally I was going to be going for the megan ez street, but the shop I take my car to told me because of the streets here, they would start to clunk and be noisy very quickly. They recommended either tein basics or SS. I was looking around here and noticed that sincitytsx put tein ss on and only could lower 1.5 in the front and 1.4 in the rear because "Well they give you a lot of thread on the shock body but the springs are very very short. So you have very little adjustment range since the coil does t get preloaded by the shock collar until about 90% of the thread is used. So you could go lower but you'd have some dangerous situations when you topped out your shock while driving as there'd be no force pushing the wheels to the ground."
So now I can't decide between the actual tein ss coils or the s.tech springs which go slightly lower for 1/5 the price.

This is down to the age old coilover vs springs/struts discussion which in turn boils down to personal preference and personal situation. If the roads are really that bad around you then maybe you shouldn't be going that low anyway, but if you still want to, then the Tein SS will allow you to adjust ride height and damper settings to get the best combo of lowered height and ride quality. Tein SS or even Basics might not get you that low, but because they reuse the stock top mount, which is rubber, the ride feedback will be less harsh than other coils which use metallic pillowball mounts.

The S-techs, assuming you're planning to install them on stock struts, which I hope not, will give you a nice big drop, but no way of adjusting height or ride quality. You could pair the S-techs with Koni Sport struts, but that only gives you damper (rebound) adjustment and no significant height adjustment (they have upper and lower perches 15 mm apart you can choose from).

Look through the info in this thread, which covers not only what options are available, but also links to others' thoughts on coils vs springs, as well as some solid articles on suspension "tuning".

I'd recommend the coilovers. If you purchase the springs you'll end up buying the coilovers in a year or two and then have paid to do the job twice. The TEIN coilovers will be able to handle the types of conditions you're describing. It reuses the stock top mounts and will absorb impact just fine. If you want damping adjustment get the SS; if not get the Basics. Both are linked below.

2.1" is the max drop for those coilovers but they can run just fine on the max drop.

This is as low as they can safely go, absolutely no lower as there is very little force on the coil now, I would say a smidge tighter than the tightest you can get them by hand, which is fine.

However with that being said, they ride great. I had Tein H tech springs before these coilovers and they rode like crap, ya they got the car low and it looked cool, but I took them off after 2 weeks and got these coilovers because I could not stand how harsh the ride was with lowering coils. These Teins I have set on level 5 out of 16 and they ride a bit firmer than stock, but not jarring at all. As a matter of fact they absorb a lot of bumps better the stock. The handling is superior to what it was stock and I am able to hit clover leaf turns and put a smile on my face. I am also using michelin pilot super sports too though and they stick like glue,

Basically with all the BS i just said. JUST BUY THE COILOVERS THEY ARE SUPERIOR TO JUST USING SPRINGS.

BTW, I would not want it any lower as I scrape the front thing that hangs down below the front bumper all the time when pulling into steep driveways and driving too fast in parking garages. Any lower would just be a pain in the ass to drive around town.

Tein ss won't be drop enough for 18s to cover finger gap. I have 19s with tein ss for my set up and I'm maxed out for my rear and front almost maxed out

Honestly, you should get the SS. You'll regret not spending the extra money later. PM me for pricing if you want a set.

Bumping up old thread, ran into some money problems so I held off on the tein SS, I should be coming into a descent amount of money soon so I am in a pickle. Should I go for the new tein street flex or the SS, I am looking to safely drop it low enough to tuck some tire of my oem 18's.

I have been really intrigued by the tein flex actually. I feel like I would get it just to try it out since the SS is so common. The flex sounds like a great coil though

What are you looking for in a coilover? If you want a comfortable, smooth ride get the TEIN SS. If you want better performance and more adjustability get the TEIN Street FLEX. We have both available if interested.

I dont mind loosing comfort, the main thing I hate is clunking and screeches like I got from my buddy club n+ on my civic. Main goal is to eliminate all finger gap on my 18's and tuck a little bit of tire when I upgrade to 20's

You will have maximum ride comfort and a perfect daily driver setup with the TEIN coilovers. If you want more adjustment (ride height and damping) and top hats I'd recommend our XLR8 ISC coilovers. Email me for more info.

Sure, if we can find someone in the Phoenix AZ area we can have an exhaust made. I can't promise it won't have any interior cabin noise but we do offer a technology in our mufflers now that will cut down significantly on drone.
