Rusty Rotors

I just noticed that the rotors on my TSX are starting to rust. Dang that's what I get for using cheap rotors. Never again. Only quality parts for my car from now on.

Aside from getting new rotors... anyone know what is the best way to remove and prevent rust from brake rotors??

Even the OEM ones rust. clean it off and then spray the areas not touched by the caliper with some high temp paint, then no more rust.

where are you getting rust?

it is normal for the face of the rotor to rust after a wash or a rain storm.
the pads will wipe away this surface rust once you brake and the wheel makes one full rotation.

if you are getting rust on the rotor hat, you can paint the hat with a high temp black paint.
this will protect from future rust and will make the rotor hat look great!!

Most rotors rust over time, doesn't mean they are necessarily low quality. Of course, there are higher cost alternatives that are supposed to be more resistant.

You can remove your rotors, go to town with a wire brush (whether handheld or drill attachment), clean it up with Brakleen, then hit it with high-temp rust inhibitor/paint.

Just be careful when cleaning/painting around the rotor surface itself, might be a good idea to mask it off.

you can also just drive normally... the rust will get removed from the brake pad.

The hats on my OEM rotors even rusted. Has nothing to do with cheap rotors, OEM rotors, whatever other variable. I just sanded them down, cleaned them and hit them with high temp caliper paint. Problem solved. Celebrate with a beer.

My entire brake rotors, from the center out to the edges, are a rusty orange. Only the surface where the brake pad contacts that rotors are not rusted. Looking at my wheels all you see is an ugly rusty orange mess back there. All 4 rotors have this.

Thanks for all the advice, looks like I have a weekend project.
