17x8 40 offset?

Question on 17x8 40 offset
Will these rub?
Says they extend 22.35mm beyond stock set up.
Seems like a lot with tape measure
Stock tire size

this is how offset works...

stock rims = +45 (guessing for you guys, its +45 on the 3g TL)
new rims = +40

the new rims will stick out 5mm from the stocks....

now usually, you can EASILY get away if the new rims are within 15-17mm of difference....also 5-7mm in the opposite direction as the clearance between the tires and suspension is usually around 12-15mm (depending on the tire and car)....

now to complicate it, lets get tire into the scenario

say stock setup: 17x8 +45 running 235/45/17
new setup 17x8 +40 running 245/45/17

so the new setup will stick out 10mm (5 mm from the offset, and 5 mm from the tire)....the way you calculate tire is (245-235)/2 ....you divide by 2 since the wider tire is wide on both sides, inside and out

hope this helps

I know. I just tried to make it a bit more clear for people who are looking for the right offset to use.

Thanks for the replys everyone. Going in friday if wheels arrive thurs. TSW Valencias--Gloss black chrome lip--GLM Wagon, 20% tint all around. Hope it doesn't look fugly. Chrome should make trim around windows pop.

Been reading lots of opinions about tsw. Mostly 'good for price', some negative though. And near as i can tell the valencia isn't made with their rotary forging process so that knocks these down a peg too. And prolly made in china so..

Yeah, stock is 17X7.5 55, not 45.
Thought about pulling trigger on new tires too with 30k on the oems...but i still have 7-8 on them and they are wearing very evenly.
Will eventually replace with michelin pilot sport A/S plus when oem's hit about 5.

Don't want to change driving character of car much as i like the car a lot as is

Hey one other thing--does the change in wheel do anything to change the numbers when getting alignment done...i.e. does acura still set to factory specs?

The wheels need to be balanced individualy. There's no need to realign if it's still aligned properly.

Yeah wheels balance when they install. Not sure if DT uses road force.
I thought in general, it makes sense to get alignment with new tires or wheels? No? Car tracks great now, pre wheel switch
