Windshield trim
Today I noticed the side trim on my '11 windshield is coming loose. I called the dealer and they said this has been happening on '09, '10 and '11 and is a well known problem.
3 model years with the same problem ?. WTF ?
I know it's a small problem (unless the thing comes flying off at highway speed and hits the car behind you) but....jeeez !
My question to you guys is has this happened to a lot of you ?.

I went to my dealer and the service guy ordered the part (10 days to get it) and told me it is fairly common. So much for solid build. The things are held in place by 3m sticky tape. Who the @!#$% designs something like that ?. " I demand an investigation "

WTH happened to my garage
Mine pulled away a little bit on the right side while washing it. They replaced them both. You need a good, dry, hot day for the adhesive to set up good. No problems after that, didn't really irritate me that much, IIRC.

you need to glue it yourself with this: http://3mcollision.com/3m-black-supe...3602-4250.html
Most dealerships do not have it so they use silicone or other stuff which will not last.

^^ yeah normally it's a clip-on part, so if the clips and tight and the part is new, then it's ok. Once you remove the molting, you almost certainly brake one or more of the plastic part where the metal clips engage, so hence you wither glue it (what I did...) or you order a new one. Best is a new one...
OTOH, Sometimes though, the think shears against the clips and makes noise inside the car, so... the glue will address that issue as well

I am a QA engineer at the Lincoln, AL plant. I am currently investigating this issue for the Odyssey. Both vehicles use the same method to secure the windshield garnish. If this issue has happened to you can you describe the condition of the melt clips? Were they broken or missing? Pictures would be great if you still have the garnish off. The melt clips are the four blue clips that the windshield garnish snaps into.
FYI, I don't recommend removing your garnish for anything other than a windshield replacement. I always break at least two melt clips when removing the garnish new. Usually break all four when the vehicle is a few years old.

My "melt clips" were OK, not broken. I had to take the trim off to address a "tic-tic" noise. I finally pinpointed the noise to one of the melt clips that was shearing against the A-pillar paint when the car was in movement. I ended up gluing the whole thing back (including solidifying the melt clips with generous amount of 3M weatherstrip adhesive). Noise was gone and trim is still properly secured.

I just had mine in to have the driver's side windshield trim for the fourth time. The first two times the piece detached from the car; the next time it made the "tic-tic" noise anytime the wind blew.
The fourth time was the day after they repaired it for the third time - the install was botched so bad that the piece didn't seat properly and made a nice high pitched whistle anytime I exceeded 60 mph. My dealer did not see my best side that day.
If there is a number 5, Acura corporate is going to hear about it loud and clear.

After having my fender repainted (due to an object falling on my fender) the body shop broke the plastic trim piece that the metal clips grab. Luckily the dealer fixed it. No problems so far....

1. do I need to take it to a glass repairman for him to remove the windshield to reinstall the clips ?
2. Should he use the 3M black weatherstrip model 03602 and add to clips prior to putting the new garnish back on?
3. can I just replace the one side that is missing the garnish? or do I need to do both
Thanks for any info on me having this done

This just happened to me. The driver's side trim on my '12 wagon separated overnight, a few inches from the top. Going to the dealer on Wednesday to have them fix it.

Honda Australia has advised all its dealer service centres to fix this at zero cost. I didn't even know about this issue until the service person advised me that they will fix it free of charge as it is a known issue.

That would be awesome if we have that here in the US too. good for ya mate!

My windshield got broke from flying debris, and Safelite broke both of my clips. They replaced them, but it took them a week to get the parts. I've since traded my car, but never had any problems of the pieces coming off. However, wind noise was markedly increased with the AM glass installed.

I just picked up my brand new 2013 TSX last week. The car now has 243 miles on it and after washing it for the very first time , while drying the car I noticed the same exact problem... The left side windshield trim sticking out... Pretty sure it's a broken clip. Really don't want to drive to the acura dealer just for this... Looks like I'm not the only one though.

In any case, just clean the parts really well with alcohol, put adhesive on both the clip areas and the spots on the molding that will be mating to the clips, press together and tape it so that it does not move. Let stand overnight.
It's been 3 years and it's still there.

Late reply... Pretty much simply glued the pieces together using 3M weatherstripping adhesive (Note: I recently found that there is a better adhesive: 3M trim adhesive which will hold better in this case).

I assume you intend to use that dealership for servicing in the future. That might be an incentive for them to go to bat for you with Acura.

The dealership just ended up putting a ton of foamy glue under the moldings to keep them down. I got my windshield replaced recently and he provided me with NEW trim pieces. Within about a month one side broke and started coming off the exact same way so just siliconed it down myself. Then that slowly came undone so I said screw it and used JB weld.
These trim pieces are the worst.
