Validity of dented catalytic converter causing lower MPGs?

Recently I had a mechanic help me with some stuff on my car. He looked under my car and told me my catalytic converter is a little dented, and this could cause lower MPGs. I was wondering how valid this is? The converter is just slightly dented, no holes or anything.

some pics would help.

but most likely if its not a big enough dent, you wont have any issues.

^ Depends on the dent and if anything inside is knocked loose. Don't our cats have heat shielding over the cat and how the hell do you dent a cat? Are you sure that wasn't a muffler?

I took a 1 3/4 inch bit and drilled and diamond pattern into my cc and gained 45 horses.

It'd be a pretty hard hit to dent stainless enough to impede flow unless the brick inside was compromised & was clogging the outlet.

Yeah, pics would help.

There's a pretty heavy duty 2 piece heat shield that encapsulates the catalytic converter. Even if the converter was dented (which is highly unlikely), you'd have to almost destroy the heat shield first.

Correct. I'd suspect that he dented something other than the cat. If he dented the cat then he has some major problems.

and its only the 3rd cat anyway, which helps provide the ULEV II status.
if it were truly dented, Replace it with a straight pipe and gain 3-5hp!
yay!
