Unhappy TSX 2009 eats gas

Does anyone else have this problem, my 09 TSX eats gas like i get 16 mpg avg. Like a quarter tank for me is about 40-50 miles of driving. And i even tried to drive like more gas conscious trying to throttle less and stuff. But for some reason since like day 1 my cars been like this and i didnt think anything of it until my friend got a v6 2011 model and i noticed he was getting way better mileage than me. He can like floor it all the time and just be gunning it all around town, and yet he gets way better millage then me. Do you guys think there's something wrong with my TSX? Anyone else get mileage like me? or is it that its just supposed to be like that?

any advice appreciated

oh also when i fill up my full tank, i can drive like around 150 miles before the gauge starts to move bellow the full line.

you need to provide information.
MoAR details are needed.

there is an onboard computer.
Please view it and record these numbers.
What is the MPG?
What is the average MPH?

these two pieces of information is critical in determining if your car is getting the right fuel economy.

Remember, the TSX is a fat pig. at 3400lbs, stop and go traffic is hard on her.

My average is about 18-19mpg. My problem is that I do mostly in-town driving (I work about 2 miles from home) so my car never gets to warm up. On a trip to So-Cal I averaged mid-high 20's. What is your normal driving like?

Looks like your are stopping and going a lot. Check out the thread I started about Real City Mileage on the TSX.

hahahaha, that'll do pig.

That is pretty low for MPG though. The V6 even gets better than that. I'd say try filling it up/resetting the trip A/B mileage, and then drive it only highway for like 20 miles and see if you are getting the normal 30-36mpg.

You'll need to come up with real numbers if you want help. 40-50 miles a quarter tank is 160-200 miles to a tank - or 8-10mpg. In addition, if you say that the your needle doesn't move for 150 miles, do you then get another 10 to 50 miles before you are dry.

Clearly, you are wanting us to feel that you find the gas mileage poor and you've given us your "impressions" of the mileage, but you need to back it up with solid numbers if you want us to help you determine if it is a problem.

Put a pad of paper in your car and keep track of mileage over a few tankfulls - annotate that list with "I did lots of short drives this tank" or "I took a roadtrip to see my aunt Sally Mae in Tchoupitoulas on this tank" and so forth.

Ok so I had to get on Highway today to visit a work site for work. So here is all 100% city driving prior to hitting the road:

And here is the after a little road trip:

I gained over 6 MPG Average after driving on Highway for just 50 miles. Proof this car is really heavy and is a hog on gas around town. But, once it gets going it is super efficient.

Alright i will start tracking my mileage and post back the results. With the needle after i fill up it wont move for like 150 miles but then once it starts to move i get like another 150-200 miles before it gets to empty, i think, i rarely fill up full tank anymore always just half tank.

To get accurate results you really need to fill up. With the price of gas going up every day, it makes sense to fill up too.

Most of my driving is downtown between stop signs, lights, and surprises! Overall mileage is 19.6 for the 1300 miles I have on the car. So it is all about location, location, location.

Try reading this on the PCM update ... not sure if your model requires it but I posted stats for my 09.

Now that it has warmed up I'm getting 7.1L\100.

The tank is 18.5 gallons, so 400+ should be the absolute minimum unless it is 100% city driving

I have a 2010. I've had it for 2 years...I do mixed driving, but it's mostly highway...I average about 24mpg in mixed driving...If I go on a long trip, Im usually around 30 mpg...and yes, for the first mile or so before I get onto the expressway, I'm at about 16mpg...but that's while the engine is cold....I'd say if I was 100% city driving, though, I'd be getting closer to 20mpg or even better...based on what you are saying, your 15 mpg is pretty low. My wife's Honda Pilot does about that in the city.

ok so after the tracking mpg for a few weeks, i figured out that i am getting around 20mpg. which is good cause i thought i was getting way less. but idk i think since i got my exhaust changed ive been getting better millage anyways, I am pretty sure i used to get 17-18 and now i am getting 20-21 which makes sense because better airflow.

Theres a huge range in mileage that I get with my '09. When I'm just driving around campus, short drives, stop lights with traffic etc, I can get as low as 16 mpg. If I'm cruising home 2 1/2 hours, hell I've gotten 37 holding 80 mph for the whole trip

I am averaging 26-27 mpg with mixed highway and country driving with hills. I am getting 31 on the highway at 65-75 on the current tank which is really good for me. With my commute it has brought it down to 29.
I just had the car in for a software update last week and i wonder if that is helping to get better mileage on my commute.

I normally get over 400 miles per tank and could get 450 when the mid says zero miles left and still have a gallon left.

It looks like i should get almost 500 miles out of this tank of mid-grade gas.

This is so much better than my rl where i'd get 300 miles per tank and 20 mpg no matter what i did.
