I bought my 2010 TSX brand new nearly two months ago and really happy with the overall performance. On the recent 1500 mile trip, I noticed a nagging drop in RPM while downshifting from 5th to 4th in 'S' mode. In most situations the RPM hovers around 2500-3000rpm in 5th gear, when I downshift to 4th the RPM jumps to 4500-5000rpm and stays there for a second and then immediately drops to 3500-4000rpm. This is so annoying while performing an overtaking maneuver as this seems like a lag. In 'D' mode, there is no lag and slush-box performs really well. I can only downshift to 3rd from 5th without any lag but then I am really close to the redline.
Have anyone else witnessed the same problem? I am planning to get it looked at the first service but I haven't usually seen the dealers to be very keen on addressing or even admitting issues like these.
Any feedback on occurrence and rectification will be appreciated.

I may just be talking out of my ass here but this seems like "vtec kicking in". I use the paddles primarily and I see this when merging onto the freeway in 3rd. Around the 4k-5k RPM area even if I floor it, it will hover for a moment before revving further. I agree, it's definitely annoying, but I don't think it's a mechanical problem (unfortunately).
Same with my ride, hate that. I have so much fun with the paddles, until I shift down to 3rd and rpm is under 5500

I have this problem...posted in a similar post. From reading the other post where someone has been in constant communication with Acura, there isn't any resolve on this issue. Please keep us posted if they tell you what is wrong.

I think its pretty normal.
I tried it yesterday and the same thing happened to me. What could it be?Originally Posted by ejongjin

Dont believe that its the Vtec. In my car it happens only in S Mode not when I drive Auto. Vtec should be the same in S or Auto ???
