P0420 code showing on my 2011 Acura TSX

Hello everyone, I知 new to the Honda / Acura community. I bought my 2011 Acura TSX Inline 4 about 2 months ago, it was in great shape and had 155,000 miles on it. It now has 160,000 miles on it (I drive a lot) and on one of my short trips to Walmart it gave me a Check Emissions System warning on the dash, I tightened the gas cap for the heck of it and pulled the code.

The P0420 code is was came of it and I知 not sure what my next move should be, I cleared the code to see if it was just a one off thing, and I知 gonna drive it a little bit to see if it comes back. I am feeling slightly less power than what I知 used to but I知 not sure if that痴 just the placebo effect playing its part. I知 primarily looking for guidance on what my next move should be, what could be the issue, and any other good information or advice to help.

Thank you everyone.

P0420 is an emissions code and doesn't affect drivability. Only urgent if your inspection is due soon.

If the code keeps coming back, you may need to have an exhaust shop install a new cat. Or depending on your state's laws, you could look into a defouler for the secondary O2 sensor (in some states vehicles are emissions-exempt once they reach a certain age).

I would say the only time it affects drivability would be if the cat has completed failed and is clogged. that would lend itself to less power, for sure.
