Not An Ashtray trim vibration

On the not an ashtray and dc power covers are those silver slivers of plastic... anyone else have vibration problems with these? They annoy the hell out of me. It was really bad when I had my intake resonator removed, but even after putting it back in they vibrate whenever the frequency is right.

It's little quality issues like these that make you not want to buy this car again in the future.

Wow, you could hear that seriously? Guess there's one benefit of getting older after all.

I bet you could have that replaced with little hassle at all from your dealer.

Mine doesn't have this noise with 24k miles on it.

Dude, it's a car...things are going to make noise. $100K Mercedes S-Classes make noise. It's just the way it is. It's not necessarily poor quality.

I think people are too critical sometimes.

Blah, I'm one of those people who used to be able to tell when someone turned on a CRT TV or monitor by hearing the high frequency sound that they make.

I'm sure the dealer can fix it but it's still a hassle. In the meantime, I'll just put a finger on it when it gets bad.

You are correct, it's not necessarily poor quality. I probably should have said poor design. Those slits are purely cosmetic which is perfectly fine (this is a luxury sedan afterall), but I find it ironic that a purely cosmetic feature could be such a detriment to my enjoyment of the car. This, and the rear shelf crackling thing are real letdowns in my opinion. Sometimes I just want to drive with the radio off and the car starts squeaking at me. Not fun.

I don't think asking for a reasonably quiet cabin is being too critical. I have been in quite a few cars and I wouldn't consider the squeaking/vibrating sounds from the ashtray and rear deck to be a part of the normal sounds that cars make.

On the other hand, I haven't been getting much sleep lately. That, plus the fact that this is my first car paid for with my hard-earned dough may have made me a bit critical when I was making the OP.

At least my car doesn't ping, or at least I wouldn't know it if I heard it.

Ha, me too! People used to think I was crazy.

I can completely relate to something like that driving you nuts. In my old chevy the dash had this annoying high pitched rattle that completely irritated the crap outta me. I bashed it till it finally stopped (it took months for it to go away, though). Other people in the car were like, "what noise??"

Good luck solving your noise issue.
