Looking at a 2012 TSX Sp Ed. 6-spd.
Hi, I am looking to replace my RDX for something with better gas mileage, now that I don't need an SUV anymore.
I am looking at purchasing a 2012 TSX Special Edition 6-spd manual.
Looks great and I like the way it drives.
I have three questions: How are they in the winter with the All season tires?
I live in New England and I know it won't be as good as my SHAWD RDX. But my commute to work is short. Will Snow tires be needed?
Also are these vehicles reliable? Any major issues?
Thanks

we are hoping that there will be a '13 Milano red 6MT with tech tsx se so we can get one. The 12 model does not have tech. Very happy with 06 tsx we now own. Have driven it in Colorado and Montana during snow storms without snow tires. The first time with OEM michelin tires with less than 3,000 miles on them and less than 1,000 miles on the Yokos the 2nd trip no problems since they had excellent thread. In fact never owned snow tires
I bought it
Very nice car I like the comfortable seats. No Navigation (Tech package) doesn't bother me), I have a Garmin GPS. But I do think it is strange they don't offer it for the 2012.
I think the car looks sharp, I got the silver moon color.
Thanks for the winter tire info. I think I will chance it with the OEM tires.

i've got a 10 base. up in north jersey, so not horrible winters, but hey we've had some big storms. i drove in the october blizzard we had this year with OEM with several thousand miles on the tires.(just got them checked at the dealer, i got 7/32 front left, 5/32 front right, and 4/32 on both rear) so i couldn't have had that much more tread on them a thousand miles ago on halloween weekend. also drove through the big storms last year. got the car in march of 2010. handles very well, especially since its FWD not AWD. just gotta know how to drive. the paddle shifters are very good, gotta know when to shift gears. 1st gives you the most traction, but you can only go a certain speed in it. also, ebrake helps with turning, but be careful. i practiced in an empty lot on snow and learned how it works. you can fuck up easily

I would check the OEM tires on TireRack. I recently bought a TSX SportWagon and they come with Michelin Pilot HX MXM4's. You might think, "Hmm. Michelin's, gotta be good, right?" Big wrong. If you look at the surveys from people who have the HX MXM4's, the ratings are pretty scary. Only 3.5 out of 10 people would buy them again. Rain, snow are rated very poorly.
First thing I did was order a set of ContiExtremeContact DWS and put them on my new car. Sold the OEM's on Craigslist at a loss of course, but I have had several sets of ExtremeContacts on my other cars and they have been stellar. With 11 million miles reported in the TireRack surveys, other drivers agree.
If you are NOT doing winter or snow tires, you might as well get the best set of all-seasons you can get. There are only four little patches of rubber connecting that new car to the road!
Cheers!
from personal experience we had no problems with the OEM Michelin tires -no loss of traction in any kind of weather. From reports those DWS tires are not that fantastic and as far as mileage not very good for the price. consumer reports rates the michelin tires as their choice

I had put the Continental DWS on my RDX that I traded. They were better in the snow and rain then the OEM Michelin Pilots that came on the RDX but it
really lost the steering response because of the more flexible sidewalls.
I thought the OEM Michelins on my RDX were fine in the snow and rain until they wore out.
The Conti's were a lot less expensive than the OEM Michelins.
So it is a matter of preference as far as what you are willing to give up!
I love the TSX, so far it is a pleasure to drive and I love the 6-spd.
No pictures yet and I don't know how to upload them anyway
