Hissing/Screeching sound when driving
Hissing/Screeching sound when driving
My car just reached 40,000 miles and so far so good. I haven't yet replaced my tires or brakes cause the dealer said it's still ok. I just noticed yesterday when I was driving on a highway, a hissing/screeching noise was coming from below my car like some metals are touching each other. So I turned off my A/C and stepped few times on a brake but it didn't seem to affect anything. So I pulled over and looked down on my car, and everything looked ok. Then I got back on the highway and after about 15 minutes, this sound came back. Now it makes this sound after every 15-30 minutes of driving. I'm not good with cars at all. Does anyone have similar problem or know what may cause this? Can this noise come from brakes even when you're not applying it?
Any feedbacks would be great!

If your car has over 40K miles on the original old style brake pads, I would wager that it's the brake pads (inside one) that is making the noise. It's probably metal to metal (especially for the rear). Take it to the dealer/garage soon to have it look after. And yes, if your pads are worn and stuck to the rotor, you will get the sound regardless (brake apply or not).
FWIW, my rear worn out by 20K miles. They do have a court settlement notice for the rear brakes and Acura will pay you up to $150 to get the new redesigned rear pads.
Luckily up here in Canada, we did not have a class action lawsuit, my dealer replaced both front and rear with redesigned pads under warranty at 33K miles for me.

Definitely sounds like the brake warning..there will be a screeching metal to metal sound when the pads need to be replaced. It's a warning sound that will sound during driving, not just braking. Get to the dealer before you screw up your rotors...
Ah, this must be what I'm hearing. I'm at about 28k miles now and I just started noticing this. After driving 15-20 minutes, you can hear this screeching/grinding noise coming from the rear. It does seem to stop after a while, but it always returns. It definitely sounds like a brake problem, but the fact that it occurred while driving had me fooled. If you hear it while driving as well I suppose that's good news.
Time to get them replaced.

it should be the rear brake pad. For 2nd Gen TSX, the rear brake pads don't last longer than 30,000 miles and the front last more than 100,000 miles. Read Complete Specs and Performance Data at http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...term_road_test.
I've had my rear brake pad replaced with new revised brake pads at 35,000 miles (see http://www.accordsettlement.com/) and now i'm at 55,000 miles with no problem. I would check rear brake pad asap before it can damage the rotor.
