Angry Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor

Anyone know where this newfangled dohickey is on these cars?

I intermittently get a p1454 CEL. Was looking around on acurapartswarehouse.com trying to find a reference to a "fuel tank pressure sensor" but couldn't.

Light will be on for maybe a day, go out for a day, maybe come on again then rinse, repeat.

I replaced the gas cap because I saw there was an old part number, so I got the new part number. Didn't seem to work. Haven't been filling my tank past the automatic shut off (since another thread suggested this could be the problem... It's not.)

Maybe it's loose?

Anyone else have any experience with this?

its something with the evap cannister. either valve sticking or sensor bad or a leaky hose maybe.

using oemacura parts .com this is how I found it

Sorry, I forgot to check back here...

It only happens every once in a while... Sometimes it will be off for days, come on for several hours, be off when I come out in the morning to start the car...

Still think it's the valve?

If anyone is curious as to what happened here:

I read somewhere that this can be caused by overfilling the gas tank. So I've been testing over the past couple weeks...

I have only filled until the pump kicks off. I don't top it off. I haven't had the problem when I do this. I topped it off a couple fill ups ago and the code came back on. I haven't topped off anymore and the code stays off.

If you're having this problem and you usually top off, don't. Try that before buying a new sensor. You may have to not top off a couple times since your valve could be sticking as robpp says. Again though, I have discontinued topping off and the code does not come on.

Thanks for following up! That's a helpful data point to have.

Another update on the situation... There were a couple more times that I had the code come back for a day, one of which was after having just filled up and aggressively accelerating getting back on a stretch of highway in nowhere land.

I used some seafoam in the crankcase and gas tank a few months ago and I have not had the code sense.

There were a few times at first, as I previously said where you may need to give it some time to work after not topping off, that it came on when the tank would get low. It eventually was coming on when the gauge was at the spot I'd usually fill up (about half tank).

So far so good and I haven't replaced the sensor, just not overfilling and I did seafoam once.

I had this code come up on my 03 Acura MDX. After checking, the sensor was indicated and replacement fixed the problem.

Sensor is behind fuel tank near axle.

DTC is an FTP electrical circuit fault, so cleaning, etc is unlikely to have any effect.

good luck

I'm not convinced the cleaning fixed the problem, just reporting that I did use seafoam in the tank.

Not overfilling has remedied my issue. It might be helpful for some other owners to try this before replacing.

Another update: The problem is now happening when I go through the carwash during cold weather. It seems like if the water gets on the sensor it is making it throw a code.

I suspect the only option at this point would be to replace the sensor and then see if the wires, or something, need protected from moisture.

Can the sensor just be removed or does the tank need to be emptied?

Edit - Also, is this the correct part? SENSOR, VENT PRESSURE for 2009 Acura TSX SEDAN|37940-SNA-A01

Fuel Pressure Sensor is located behind the gas tank approx. near car centerline. You will need jack stands or ramps to elevate for access.

Suggest a TSX shop manual to help.

That is correct part no.

good luck

Have you checked the wiring leading to the sensor? Maybe it is corroded, and the water makes it go berserk?

No, I haven't. I will do that when I get a chance.

Do you know where the FTP sensor is located for a 2003 Acura CL type S? I am having this code pop up P04156 but my check engine light is not on. I changed the purge valve and the evap canister filter and the still is not fixed.
