Finish wearing off interior parts like handbrake lever

My wife is the primary driver of our 09 Tech TSX and I don't know what the deal is but the finish is wearing off the handbrake lever. The car is still under warranty so at some point I'll call it in and have them replace the piece but I was wondering whether anyone else had seen this happen. I'm concerned that it is going to happen to other parts of the dash and make the TSX look like some sort of 1970s junked parts car. I suppose it could be acidic body chemistry but it seems like they didn't put a very good coating on the plastic. I'll post a picture when I get a chance - it looks pretty bad as the underlying plastic is quite a different color altogether.

Interesting and I will also go and find that TSB referenced. In my 09, I have a small (quarter-sized) wear on driver door handle...so hopefully the TSB covers this

The paint is wearing off where my right knee rests along the silver part. I plan on mentioning this to the dealer during my next service appointment. It should be covered under warranty.

Does the TSB including replacing the worn parts with newly designed parts? If not, I think it's a waste of time to have the dealer replace them. They'll probably break something and the paint will just wear out again. Let's face it. Our cars are pieces of crap. I have a 2010 TSX V6 TECH and have had many problems, many more than my other Acuras/Hondas. I only drive the TSX once a week or so. I'm fed up with all the problems. I drive my 91 Integra with over 350K miles most of the time. It's 20 years old and even with the miles, it has less squeaks/rattles than the TSX. There is absolutely no way the TSX would ever last 20 years/350K miles. Junk, just deciding what to replace it with, but I'm sure it will not be another Acura/Honda.

Unhappy

I thought I had done a pretty thorough job of searching the forum (I searched for finish and handbrake - ok, it's a "parking brake") but I didn't expect a TSB for the frigging brake lever finish after the rear brake pad replacement fiasco. My wife is a medical social worker and uses a lot of that hand disinfectant stuff which probably did a number on the finish - but this is still ridiculous - that in 2009 they can't figure out how to put a durable finish on plastic. I would expect this from a 1970 Datsun, but not from an Acura... And I noticed the same problem with the door grip - and also the chrome peels off the grill!!!

I think another one of my speakers is going so I'll kill 2 birds with one service visit...

Many thanks - I didn't realize that so many new TSB's had come out in the last few months.

I am having the same problem of wearing off finish on the drivers door handle. I took it to the dealer and they initially said they were not going to do anything about it. I told them to do further research and let me know.

Sheesh! Hope the 2011 cars are better built than the 09s. I have a Jan 2011 build TSX and I was hoping for minimal trips to the dealer.

All the hand sanitizer and lotions that are in use today eat away at the plastics. Best thing to do is make sure you do not put the stuff on in the car.

I used to use hand sanitizer when I go t in the car as I left the hospital I worked at until I noticed that the leather on the steering wheel started getting eaten up.
