Excessive Brake Dust
Excessive Brake Dust
I seem to always have excessive brake dust buildup on my wheels. Rain or shine and even just a mile away..Is there anyway i can prevent this..or is it normal..man, i'm tired of cleaning my wheels everytime i go somewhere! My car is a 2010 Acura TSX with 20" RonJon legends.. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..pls.see link..http://www.flickr.com/photos/42788425@N07/5623986180/http://www.flickr.com/photos/4278842...n/photostream/
Doesn't look like brake dust to me. Brake dust does not accumulate on wheels as rusty orange spots. Brake dust is just that, dust. It accumulates as a homogeneous coating of dark grey/black/ sometimes reddish dust. That my friend is straight steel rust left behind by water.
To me, those pictures look like water is sitting somewhere, turning orange from oxidation of metal and spraying out when you drive, leaving the oxidation behind. In fact, in the photos I can even see where it's coming from. Look at "brake dust 2" and focus on the small drainage holes next to the lugs. You can see that they are rusty on the inside and you can see that the rust continues from the hole radially outward towards the lip down the face of the wheel.

I don't have excessive brake dust but I have found a product that works really good at minimizing the build up on the rims. Its DP Wheel Glaze and can be found at autogeek.net. Works really good. Will last you two weeks tops. I put it on everytime I wash my car.
