what is this engine pinging sound everyone is talking about? what does it sound like? does it make a sound when u accelerate?

 

It sounds like a single BB or small bearing being lightly rattled in an empty metal coffee can.

You'd recognize it as being an aberrant sound.

Yeah, IMO it's more a "rattle" than a "ping." Check the uber-long valve timing issue thread for more (excruciating) detail. Most people are reporting it between ~2500-3000 rpm. So far there is no reported fix, and many Acura dealers/repair places are considering it "normal for the car."

Not everyone is experiencing this, myself included. There's already a thread with poll results of which build trim people have that are having an issue with it.
