clicking noise from the B-pillar (i think) at low speeds

anyone have this problem? i cannot for the life of me figure out what the heck is making the noise, but it's a soft *click* noise at low speeds, especially when i'm going over mild bumps or when coming to a stop/starting forward slowly. however, i don't think it's the suspension because it seems to be coming from the passenger side B-pillar area (i.e. to the right of the front passenger seat back). i've pressed on the hard plastic and it does flex and creak somewhat, so i'm thinking it's that.

is there an easy way to remove that paneling to see what's inside?

It's quite easy to remove the B-pillar covers from the inside. you need to remove the front and back plastic door sill covers and then peel the weatherstripping front and back enough to remove the lover cover of the B-pillar.

In my car, I had a similar problem. It was likely due to metal rubbing on metal when the body flexes.

I solved it by slightly removing the B-pillar trim and then inserting a screwdriver in one of the holes from the inside and slightly bending the passenger-side sheet of metal. Very slightly. Then I sprayed lube from the inside on the sides of the b-pillar,where the weatherstripping you peeled normally sits. This is where the 2 sheets of metal are bonded together. I used "Fluid Film" but you can use any type of non-volatile lube.

I'm chasing a similar issue from the passenger B pillar as well. Like you I've searched and read the suggested TSB link from ressling, but don't think it applies. At this point, I think it comes from the seat belt mounting point. It seems to have just enough play that it creates a noise (click or mild clunk) at lower speeds. Just like the super click happy steering, it is annoying and detracting from an otherwise great car.

yeah, i have pressed, pushed, and punched the seat belt mechanism. i buckle it in, and the sound remains. i pull all of the seat belt out to its end, and the sound remains. i did feel that there are at least some cords/cables within the B pillar, and i will probably end up taking it off and looking inside for the problem.

it's completely obnoxious though.

LOL! Hope you find a solution. It's just my 2 cents that many mistake car noise for the rear popping coming from the jack point. Keep us posted on your progress.

I'm almost afraid to tell you in case you develop it as well. Here is the thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tsx-problems-fixes-145/turning-steering-wheel-makes-clicking-noise-772945/

Quick synopsis, steering wheel clicks all the time. The dealer claims it is normal due to the design of the car. I've never had a car do this before and find it more and more aggravating. I'm going to try to get them to fix it as some have had success with replacement parts, but I feel I may have to try another dealer. However, this is supposed to be the better dealership in the Washington DC area.

The other hypothesis I have for my B pillar noise is that the dealer broke or tweaked something when tightening up the sun roof as it was loose. I’m going to try to look around the roof tonight.

It sounds like we’ve tried the same things so far for the B pillar noise and had about the same success ;-)

which dealer did you take it to? i had good success with Rosenthal up in Gaithersburg, but Pohanka and Radley don't seem to care about your problem or your car, really.

i am going to have my girlfriend drive with me in the passenger seat and my ear to the freaking B pillar and see if it really is coming from there or from under the car at the jack points.

I suggest you remove the b pillar trim before riding in the passenger seat. Take a screwdriver with you, and when you hear the noise, try inserting the screwdriver between the metal sheets from one the holes above the seat belt mechanism, and gently put some pressure there, and see if it makes the noise go away...

I have had this same issue from day one. Have had my car to the dealer literally a dozen times for the issue and it's still not fixed. It annoys me to no end when I am a passenger in the car. When I'm driving the music is up, so most of the time I do not notice it. Acura is dragging its feet on a few small, but seemingly easy to fix issues. If I had it to do all over again, I would not have purchased this annoying car! I can't wait till something else that I really like comes on the market so I can get rid of this car!

This may or may not be the same problem which I've had with my Accord for over 8 months. It's a metal-to-metal clicking type noise which, in my case, comes from the driver's door and appears to be caused by the bodyshell flexing. At times it does it when turning into corners on quite smooth roads so it can't be caused just by bumps in the road. At first I thought it was coming from the front of the door but, as I spent more time listening to it, I narrowed it down to the back of the door which is adjacent to the B pillar. This led me to think it was the seat belt mechanism or something in the B pillar. I finally got tired of another (unconnected) rattle which was coming from the driver's door so I took the entire door card off to find the source. By luck, I found I could replicate the 'clicking' sound by moving either of the two control cables, or the electrical connector, which attach to the electric door lock. The lock mechanism itself is mounted in a metal 'cage' welded to the inner door skin. Because the mechanism is free to move ever-so slightly, it creates a clicking/grating noise as the lock moves within the cage. The answer is, presumably, to dismantle the lock and reassemble it correctly. I was pressed for time when I had the door card off so I never effected a repair, but I don't think it would be too difficult.

I hope this helps

yup, i feel the same way. this is probably my last Acura. i'm getting tired of buying them only to have problems with them, and in some cases, even deny that there are issues to begin with.

it's ridiculous, especially if you think about all the other car makers out there that are messing up in their own ways right now. they could easily win over customers by simply doing the right thing.

Rosenthal is who I am dealing with and I have to say they are pretty good. It sucks to drive up there, but Pohanka just didn't seem to have their act together when trying to buy the car and their service dept does not have a stellar reputation from what I understand.

I thought I would send a follow-up and credit goes to Ressling - it is the shim that will fix this issue or at least it did in my case. There was no way I thought that was the issue based on the descriptions others have made, but they did the shim kit and the noise is gone. I still have an issue with the rear shock (waiting on the part), but the noise that sounds like the B-pillar appears to be gone and it has been a few weeks.

I also had the rear shelf TSB, but that isn't resolved just yet but I have an idea on what might be causing it.

At least the clunk that was driving me insane is gone. The steering still clicks, but I'll learn to live with it.

I will never buy another Acura. I have never spent so much time at a dealership and my car has less than 9,700 miles! They finally repaired the "popping/clunking" noise (after the 3rd visit) with the shims BUT I got home and discovered deep cuts in one of my rims! So far: cracked fog light, replaced sticking door handle, buzz in steering wheel cover, "popping/clunking" and now this. I have had it. No more Mr. Nice Guy...

+1.

steering wheel virbration when his brake----fixed---3 times
front Brake squeal------------------------------fixed--- 1 times
clicking sound from the trunk----------------- fixed--- 2 times
granding noise when release brake--------not fixed--2 times
knocking or pinging sound from outside--not fixed--1 times
headliner rattleting---------------------- fixed-- by myself

I only own a car for a year with 13000 miles now. as you can see how many times I have been at a dealership. I still have outstanding issues not fixed yet. It is nightmare for me of owing NEAR luxury $30,000 car. Speechless. period.

^^ I've heard and read even worse stories from people who purchased BMW's, Mercedes and Audi's costing over $5-10,000 more than your Acura. A lot of them seem to think it is perfectly normal and okay to have the problems.

I've had mine for 8300 miles with absolutely zero problems. So good luck on your next purchase! You can leave Acura, but that doesn't mean you will get rid of your problems.

Lucky you to have no problems and I do hope that your trend continues I can understand a few issues here and there because it is a machine that is man-made, but this is absurd. I have owned two other new vehicles (Honda & Mazda) and had ZERO problems. Not to mention they were almost half the cost of this vehicle.

my previous car was a mazda and i had no problems for the first 5 years, then i started having major engine issues right after my warranty was over. how convenient.

these cars are brand new. we're only in the second year (first for the v6) so there will be a lot of gremlins for acura to sort out.

my tip to all you who are aggravated with all these issues, don't buy a car that is only in it's first 2 years of production. it's really that simple.

it seems to me the b pillar noise and the seat belt noise are from the same source. please keep in mind, people interpret certain sounds differently. also lets be honest here, how many of you wouldve gone to own this vehicle problem free if it wasnt because of this site. many times people read a complaint here and start looking for it themselves, just to say well his car is doing the same thing, mine will do it too, so natrually id like to have it fixed before it escalades.
yes your car is idnetical to others, but what the average consumer doesnt know how different their car is to others.
acura listens to the problems, corrects them on cars with out the future owners knowledge. its a secret the average consumer doesnt know. so lets not jump on bandwagons here and slam a dealer for not "fixing" your noise/rattle/chatter the first time. chances are its not even there.
summary...
b pillar noise and seat belt noise= lift points at rear of car. solution, inserting special wedges to inside of lift point
front end rattle= insufficient padding of the cowl cover weather strip. solution, install corrective weather strip.
steering wheel rattle, personally ive never heard it on a tsx but on tls its the center garnish on the middle of wheel. correction, disassemble wheel, and insert flet tape to edges and anti rattle lubricant.
