Buffer Trail...HELP !

Okay so my tax was detailed at the dealership and they left buffer trails, I took it back and they made it worse.... They now want to get an outside guy to do it and see if he can get them out, However, I have been to another Acura dealership and they sand blasted it and they could not remove them. I am worried about what to do next and if this is wearing down my paint/ ad or clear coat. Any help would be great because I do not know what to do if they have their guy try and not get it out....is painting it over the best plan

At this point, I'd find a person who you can personally verify knows a lot about detailing. Tell the dealership that since this is their mistake that you want your outside guy to look at it and determine the best course of action. From my experience with dealerships, their "detailers" do horrible work. They put scratches all over my brand new TSX which to this day is a month and a half old. Both rear quarter panels, rear bumper, and trunk were damaged. They attempted to buff it out TWICE and they accomplished nothing. They finally offered me a Wing free of charge and I took it to a body shop and got most of the scratches removed for $90.

Long story short - find a detailer and ask the dealership to cover any cost. If a detailer cannot remove the marks, a repaint MAY be necessary. However, I wouldn't recommend that unless absolutely necessary. And if the dealership offers a repaint, DO NOT use their body shop. Demand that they pay YOUR shop of choice. My dealerships body shop told me the car would never look the same and it wouldn't match. My body shop said the opposite and said any good painter will be able to do it nearly perfectly. And I know my shop is right because my family has used them several times, including myself on an older car to wet-sand and fill rock chips.

BTW: You can only go so far into the clear coat. I have no idea if a dealership even knows how deep they can go because they barely buff anything. My body shop said the dealer obviously spent minimal time because they didn't want to ruin the clear coat. The body shop went as far as they could while still leaving some clear coat so it didn't ruin the paint job.

They said they would pay for the work, as long as it was not as much as their other detailer that does not work for them. I call BS on that because they messed it up in the 1st place and they do not have room to tell me much about a price. I live in Atlanta and I really have no clue as to who is a good body shop but I will look around and see what I can find. I just got the car Acura from that dealership less than 2 weeks ago, then they wanted to detail it before I took it home and this happens

As I said, my dealership scratches my car all over during their prep detail. I flipped out and demanded they fix the issue. Guess what? No, they couldn't solve it in house. At this point, I demanded a new paint job and even called their body shop without mentioning the type of vehicle or who I am. Yes, I was told that it's not recommended to repaint a vehicle because it will never look the same. I went into the dealership with my laundry list of things I demanded fixed.

1.) Tints - Still not perfect. Some bubbles and I was told they can't be perfect anywhere due to elements in the air. I call BS because my Civic had tints done by a shop and it was 100% dust and bubble free!

2.) 2 Interior Trim Panels were scratches / damaged during prep. I could feel the scratch on one of them

3.) Scratches all over the car

It appears the new car experience at both of our dealerships wasn't positive. I'd never buy another car from my dealership again because the preparation department did this same thing to an interior panel on my RDX. I'm willing to go as far as say their "outside guy" is a cheap Maaco style detail expert. You know, the ones who say they know but they began their career at Jiffy Lube? Get an estimate from their guy first so you know if the dealer is low balling you. This is their screw up and you HAVE no reason to give in easily. If all else fails, contact Acura Client Relations and file your complaint.

For a good detailer in your area, try and check the local forums for your area on Acura Zine. You can create a thread asking for an excellent detailer in your area and someone should respond with their suggestions.

Where are you located? I can probably refer you to a reputable pro in your area, or at least find one somewhat close.

Here's an old article I wrote for the DI blog.
