Brakes recall - need feedback urgent.
Brakes recall - need feedback urgent.
I got a letter a few month ago from Acura stating that they're doing a customer satisfaction recall on my brakes on the 2009 TSX because they wear out prematurley.
I only have 32k kilometers on the car and now the brakes are starting to squeel. When my service minder reported that B service was due a while back during my last oil change, i told them to only due an oil change as per the suggestion from the guy across the counter since I had a letter stating I had bad brakes and that I would return later when they start squeeling..
Now that I took it back, the guy was asking me why I didn't do the B service and hinting that possibly paying for getting the brakes replaced even though I have a letter from Acura saying my brakes WILL die out early.. Which they did, regardless of inspection.
I'm expecting a call soon.. What should I expect? I have to pay for it?

No service lights of any kind came on when I took my car in for service. I just heard the brakes making noise, and I have some other stuff going on. I would imagine that if you ignored your required maintenance that you are supposed to get done, that they have grounds to void that portion of your warranty. Is the reason you waited because you wanted to get the longest life out of your defective pad as you could or something?

I'm real happy for those of you that got your brakes replaced for free, but my dealer gave me the big middle finger because I had more than 12K miles on my car; they said it was no longer covered under the TSB. Then they tried to tell me because of the lawsuit, that they were advised not to change anymore brakes and the customer would have to file a claim and get the $150 re-imbursement...AFTER I pay full price for the repair. Is there a contact for the corporate office? Acura of Memphis has been the worst dealer I have ever dealt with in the history of my new car buying. Service dept. lost my keys during an oil change, they repeatedly ignore my requests not to wash my car because they can't do it without getting spots and streaks all over it...They won't honor the TSB...and unfortunately, they are the only Acura dealer within 3 hours. Can Honda dealers do repairs on my Acura under warranty?
Sorry for the rant, every time I see where someone else's Acura dealer took good care of them, it makes me hate my dealer even more. Acura of Memphis can rot in haites

don't let them pull this kinda sh^t on you. Why would you pay for a B service for them to do your brakes when the TSB/recall is FOR the brakes. My service advisor also tried to pull this one on me but I told him it made no sense whatsoever.
This recall applies to Canadian TSX only. As long as the vehicle is under 36 months old, they will replaced the old style brake pads, machine rotors, service and/or replace caliper if needed. My dealer replaced the front pads with the redesigned ones (with springs) when they worked on my rear pads (all free of charge). The rear is done under recall and the front I believe is a TSB.
US has a class action lawsuit settlement, you get $150 reimbursement for pads replacement.

My brakes occasionally squeaked from day one. I have been aware and waiting for a recall for several months now. Thank god to this forum and all you peeps posting useful info. I have 42K on my TSX and it is occasionally making sounds while accelerating slowly or while making slow turns around corners I occasionally hear what sounds like metal on metal sound. I have checked my rear brakes and to my surprise the pads look like a sliver when compared to the front. I drive 6 speed manual. I am use to getting 100K+ out of front brakes and even more out of the rear brakes. To date I have not received any TSB which I am aware of ... today I called Acura of North Toronto ... they would not acknowledge\confirm if there is a TSB ... They were more interested in getting my VIN # and getting me to bring the car in for an inspection. I already have certified Mechanic of which I have been dealing with 15+ years. All I want Acura to confirm is there a TSB of which I can get my rear brakes replaced under warranty ... This is a freaking new car with only 42K on it!
Update ... Yesterday I brought my car into North Toronto Acura. They repleaced my rear brake pads as well as the front pads all under recall warranty. Did not cost me a penny other than 6 hr wait time. The brakes feel better than new. I am once again a happy camper.
BTW for all those with Canadian 2008-2009 Accord or 2009-2010 TSX who suspect you have bad brakes just call up your local Honda\Acura dealer have your VIN number ready and they will tell you if you are covered under the recall.

I am grateful also that my dealer changed both front and rear pads back in May at 53K km under warranty. The service advisor mentioned that the rear pads with the v spring and tougher material should last at least 80K+ km. Now we are both good on brakes for the next few years.
awesome !
I actually brought my car in yesterday for brake replacements...they were making scratching noises, but the dealership said the warranty only covered two of the four brakes...ended up paying $250 out of pocket. But they gave me a free blanket if that makes it worth ot...

Your car is less than a year old, which one did you end up paying for (front or rear)? Contact the area rep because there is almost no way you should have to pay for brake replacement for a car under a year old (unless you put on tons of miles). If it's the rear brakes, then follow the class action lawsuit requirement and get $150 back.

That sounds fishy to me.

Crazy, I know.
Travel more then 100 miles daily.
I'm pretty sure it was the front.
But from what I could tell, the front brakes were fine, they just said they needed to be replaced to make some money off of me.
my 2010 tsx has 23k miles...purchased it in Feb 10'
my brakes started squeeling and making loud noises yesterday out of no where. i dropped it off at acura this morning... not sure what is going to happen or if it will be covered under warranty. this is a joke.

Hi all. my 2008 tsx has 54k kilometers and the rear brakes were changed twice. First time at 34k kilometers and the 2nd time with only 20k kilometers driven. Does this recall also apply to 2008 model TSX in Montreal? Thanks in advance for your replies. Best, caps59
I took my '10 TSX V6 in today for a scheduled oil change (12k miles). I had noticed vibration in my steering wheel when braking and made sure to mention it to the service rep. My front rotors were warped. They had to be resurfaced and replace the pads. The service rep said that I was just under the wire with 11,895 miles because at 12k mile the warranty would not have covered. I am so glad I read these posts!

maybe its cheaper to get aftermarket brake pads. but then again its a joke that the life of the pads are so short.
