Blinking Compass

Anyone experience their compass constantly blinking during a drive. It happens intermittently with when I start my car. This started 2 days ago and I tried calibrating it and that didn't help. Going to dealer tomorrow but curious if anyone else has been through this. I have a 2009 non tech package.

I think it means that it is calibrating. The compass also has an auto calibrating function, so maybe yours is mis-calibrated and attempts to re-calibrate automatically, hence blinking. Try to re-calibrate it again. Make sure you are away from large magnetic sources when calibrating.

I've recalibrated every time and I've even changed up the zones. Nothing seems to be working. Dealer will take a look at it but this is probably not going to be easy to diagnose. What a stupid problem.

The dealer found the problem! The compass is mounted under the rear shelf and since I have aftermarket speakers and a sub so close to the compass, it has created a magnetic field that is disrupting it. Heads up to all you who have put in after market systems.

James, have you given any thoughts on putting some magnetic shielding material around the speakers in question. Check with your local Radio Shack or similar store for the material

Didn't know those existing. Thanks for the tip. I will try it out. The blinking has definitely stopped since I took out those rear shelf after market speakers. It's been a few days now and everything is back to normal.

Blinking compass...

I see that if you install aftermarket speaker it effects how the compass functions...question, how do you correct this? Lead line the sub? Or what, any suggestions?

You do realize that thread is from 2010, right?
