originally the 3rd gen ipod came with a ipod to firewire cable, i went to radioshack and got this belkin thing with an ipod cable that has a usb on the other end. My 3rd gen ipod is up to date with itunes so if anyone has any tips for fixing id appreciate it, I also tested the cable with my bros iphone and that worked fine, it was actually pretty sick using it with the navigiation.

 

The 2009 owner's manual says its compatible with the following models and firmwares:

iPod 5G - Ver. 1.2 or more
iPod classic - Ver. 1.0 or more
iPod nano - Ver. 1.2 or more
iPod nano 2G - Ver. 1.1.2 or more
iPod nano 3G - Ver. 1.0 or more
iPod touch - Ver. 1.0 or more
iPhone - Ver. 1.1.1 or more

I'd say you're out of luck with your 3G. From what I'm reading the 3G ipod can't even charge via USB power. You could probably find an old 5G or nano for dirt cheap on ebay, or maybe its time to upgrade to the latest and greatest, just like your tsx

 

yeah I guess thats the case, someone actually made fun of me at work for having it hooked up to the dewalt radio lol

 

and you can always play it through the auxiliary plug instead, you just won't be able to control it thru the navigation screen.

 

yea I ended up doing that for the time being, it actually fits nice on angle between the parking break and the center console for easy controlling.

 

Patcracks: I had the same problem with my 4th Gen Ipod Photo. Im in the market for a 5th gen ipod on ebay for dirt cheap... hoping to find one in any condition just as long as it plugs in and plays in the car since it will probably just stay in the center console.

 

I hope to be getting an iPod touch soon. Then I'll just be missing one part.....a 2G TSX.

 

Just a heads up - Might want to wait and see if the price drops down for the ipod touch since the iphone 2 is releasing next month for only $199.... which might cause a price drop throughout the ipod line?

Can you browse your ipod by Genre through the nav screen? I only see Artist, Album, Title, Playlist.....

 

no genre option

 

Being a audiophile the 3rd and 4th gen ipods have the best DACs but most people wont care. As for me I will never give up my 4th gen ipod.
