2013 Model Transmission

Just purchased the '13 TSX a month ago. When driving down steep hills or steady downhill, the transmission downshifts. Is this normal? I've never had an automatic do this before but again, the '13 TSX is the newest car I've ever purchased so I don't have anything comparable to compare it to. It was a little alarming at first but apart from the downhill drive, everything seems to be fine.

Thanks to all that reply.

My 2012 does it if you are going downhill and hit the brakes. Never noticed if just coasting downhill

Sometimes it seems to hold the downshift too long

Honda call this "grade logic control". Is downshifts on downhills to benefit from engine braking.

Ok. So ultimately, this isn't likely a repair issue then, right?

Thanks.

As TSXV6 says, grade logic control. My TL auto did this as well, not an issue to worry about.

Cheers,Mike

This is completely normal. Most cars do this. The computer uses engine braking to help keep the speed in check and help the brakes. It actually helps MPG because it cuts fuel.
