0W20 oil Recommendation
0W20 oil Recommendation
What brand 0W20 motor oil are you TSX owners using?
I bought a 2012 TSX SE 6-spd. Just wondering what people are using or does it even matter (as manual says API certification Seal.
Thinking of using Mobil One synthetic. But I don't know if synthetic is going to offer any extra protection over non synthetic oil.
But if you go to the Mobil One sight and put in 2012 TSX it does not recommend
any oil instead it says not enough information for that particular vehicle!
Thanks

Particular brand doesn't really matter, as long as they are able and honest on certifying to API standard. Dealers almost always use bulk oil. I would go with a relatively known brand and appropriate certification. for 2012 TSX, honda recommends 0W20 so I would use that grade, regardless of brand. Note that some people think that you should not use synthetic too early in the life of the engine (unless it's factory filled with synthetic, which the TSX is not).
What is exactly changed in the engine between the 1st gen and 2nd gen TSX that it now requires 0w-20? 1st gen engines had 5w-20 as the recommended oil, and allowed use of 10w-30 if you lived in warmer climes.
I think even 09-10 TSXs were 5w-20.
Now it's only 0w-20 that is recommended. If this is purely so Acura can meet higher CAFE standards and not due to any manufacturing changes or tolerances, then wouldn't 5w-20 be okay and maybe even better for the engine in the long run?
I switched to 0w-20 Mobil 1 after about 5k of the factory fill for my 11 TSX MT. I am not even sure you can get pure dino of 0w-20; I think most available are synthetic or blends to achieve that level of viscosity.

^thank you for contributing to the topic.
it doesnt really matter the oil used.
as long as you change the oil and filter regularly; your engine will be healthy.
Honda changed from 5w-30 to 0w-20 for CAFE reasons; in order to boost MPG through out their entire fleet.
Furthermore, most synthetics are blends of conventional oil. (I'm looking at you, mobil1)
