My new custom grill

It's about 75% done. I still have to fill in the gap with something. Probably with some abs plastic or some weather stripping. I still have to sand down the edges. Everything is held with zip ties sinces it's hard to create brackets with bolts and nuts.

Also I'm not liking the chrome and silver. I think it clashes with my color scheme. I'm likely to plasti dip the chrome. Maybe even tint it like black chrome. Also I plan to plasti dip or cf vinyl wrap the upper and lower grill. I'm pretty sure I'll figure out a good color scheme to match the car. There's so many color combinations I can do with this.

Took me about 5 hours. It was mostly dremeling and figuring out how to mount it. I ran out of time this evening so I'll get back to cleaning it up sometime next week.

I have a lot more pics but this teaser will do for now

that would be awesome, but defintly black out the top and bottom part , leave the middle and the acura sign, or carbon fiber the top and botom leave the middle and acura or black out the middle and acura with the caron top and bottom, 3 diffrent options right there

Looks just like the MDX grille. Seems too big, but CF,or plastidip,or paintmatch the upper and lower will prolly make it look much better. Does the grille have texture?

i know what you mean. i can always take out the top and bottom and create an outer frame just like c-mod and ron jon. i just went with this because its way totally different.

it looks big because of all the chrome and silver which makes it stand out. also the acura logo is hella huge compared the original logo on the TSX.

ill be working with the color scheme to bring it down. ill even try the double murder look by blacking out all 3 grills with cf vinyl and plasti dip.

another version is to position this higher and create a frame around it and call it a day. my only issue is the background where it shows the horn and wirings. i need to find a good honeycomb grill.

That's what I was thinking too. Looks huge compared to our normal emblem.

Ahh okay I see what you did...the leftmost and rightmost parts of the middle piece are on the outside part of the bumper. Is there anyway for you to mess with the angle of the pieces? They're too angled. Might look/fit better if they weren't so acute angled.

+1 on plastidip or cf'ing the upper/lower parts.

yep i had to cut inside so it just slides over the bumper.

the upper grill is fitted perfectly with the middle grill.
im having issues fitting the bottom grill. its actually hanging over the bumper. also its bolted in the center. i used an L-bracket and it made the center part of the bottom grill a bit flat. i still need to figure out a way to fit the bottom grill. it probably needs more dremeling. i didnt do any real measurements. i just eyeballed it and shaved little at a time

ya plasti dip and cf vinyl will likely make a huge difference. i have plasti dip in the garage but i need to order some more cf vinyl.

this MDX grill is not that bad for a $100 investment.

imagine if i bought a C-mod grill and used this center grill over it.

ill just buy his grills, slap on my conversion and sell it for $500 over ebay. hehehehe

then i can buy more gunzzzzzzzzzzzz

Nice. I like the full shield look with the giant emblem. Looks Benz-ish. Only thing that looks a bit off is the fact that the A is too low. No real way to fix that though. =/

yea thats totally the first thing i thought of. it reminded me of the benz grill

ya i cant do anything about it. not much room to work with on the 11' models. maybe on the 09/10 bumper since the grill actually touches the headlights

its cool man. i still have my OEM grill that i can always slap back on.

stay tuned buddy. like i said its only 75% done. plenty of room for improvements.

im also curious to take these upper and lower grill off and do a ronjon version. ill tackle on this version later on after im done with this MDX look.

that would be awesome if i can just toggle the look every month. zip ties are a wonderful invention

thanks again for the feedback guys. ill be listening

Lol guns are always a good investmment. They don't really lose value either. Anyways I like the bar without the upper and lower parts. When u started this project I actually thought u were going to just do the bar and add mesh to fill in the space. In my opinion I think that would be clean. Get either black or paint matched mesh and leave the bar chrome. It'll look awesome. That's my two cents. I know you will figure it out and make it look good.

ill be doing both versions.

i didnt want to just scrap the MDX upper/lower grills. i wanted to see if i can make them work. i can see it working so i definitely wont scrap them.

for the 2nd version with just the chrome middle grill, im thinking of buying a large aluminum sheetmetal from lowes/home depot and just drilling holes in them and using that as my back grill. then spray it flat black or semi gloss black.

i think that would look better than a honeycomb grill and it would be easier to manipulate

Good luck drilling singular holes in sheet metal. You need a CNC machine for it to come out right. The reason the MDX grille looks good is cause of the dimples. I would make the two shields out of aluminum plot your dots with a marker and pound out dimples using a rod and hammer. It will be less noticeable if you mess up and easier than drilling every single hole like you were thinking of doing for the mesh. There are a lot of mesh styles out there that would look good why make a custom one? I would focus on manipulating the MDX shield.
