3M Di-Noc Wrapped Grille (First Attempt)

So I decided trying this out. Ordered a 8sq/ft roll. Took me a while to do it and it still came out like crap. I definitely recommend getting at least 8sq ft of it since if you never had experience with doing these types of stuff, you're probably going to mess up. I messed up on the first one and the pictures you see are the second and it still pretty crappy. There are certain parts particularly around the emblem that I messed up on cutting. Had to patch it up using little pieces of the vinyl.

Doing the smiley face part was hard especially when you already used two big chunks of the vinyl. I had to do a top and bottom part. I will probably plan on getting some more and redoing it but I'll leave it be as of right now. Here are the pictures (from phone).

I think that looks great, just wondering if it would look any good for a PWP :S

Also, do you have a site that gives you step by step instructions on how to do this?

Well had some time today to tackle the center console. Getting better at it. The little dip by the shifter was the hardest thing to mold since I had to have constant heat on the vinyl in order for me to mold it and push out any bubbles or creases. It sucks when you have to juggle the heat gun, vinyl and center console with both hands.

Thanks for the comments guys!

The grille took about a good four hours to do and it was my first time doing it. It came out crappy.

You would have to try it out. You can buy less and just see if it looks good on your car.

As for instructions, I just kept staring at this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-UCKTD5tAY

You need to have a lot of patience, heating it, peeling, sticking, repeeling. Use a straight edge razor blade and scissors. Other than that, its pretty straight forward

I cleared out my headlights and installed VLEDs switchbacks

Here are the pictures

It's cell phone pictures since im too lazy to get my SLR. I haven't done the two little lids up front, it got too dark.

Looks good to me!

Question: Did you notice a big difference in handling after installing your rear sway bar? Thanks!

Thanks. Regarding the RSB, its a noticeable difference, when you turn a corner, it feels more composed and flat around the corner. You feel as if the car can go around the corner with more confidence

The mods by themselves aren't super special, but the wrapped grill along with the cleared out lights in combination is what makes your car stand out. My favorite pic is the 5th from the top. Good job!

What are your other hobbies?

I like the center console a lot. Nice work.

I'm the only one that ever points this out, maybe it's because I'm anal and the only one who ever notices it...but you installed your grill wrong. The gap between the bottom of the grill and bumper is larger than it's supposed to be because you missed the clips on the bumper that hold the grill to it. Right now, the grill is resting on top of the clips. It's a little tricky getting them in there and most people seem to miss this the first time they remove their grill/bumper. I know I did.

Thanks. Yea I wanted to some stuff and not spend too much. I wanted to try it out and see how a blacked out grille would look. Now I really want to paintmatch my grille.

As for hobbies...heh tap rack bang. and golf.

If you just try to stick on with no heat, its not going to stick very well. You basically lay it over first and then use a heat gun or hair dryer and just apply heat all over the vinyl, and the vinyl will heat up and makes the vinyl more malleable and will adhere to the console better. That's why I think with my grille, since it was my first time, I didn't know you were suppose to constantly apply heat to it.

Thanks! I was hoping someone would not notice. I knew I installed it wrong when I was putting it back together but by the time I was done with the grille, it was already 12:30am and I had to wake up at 6:00 for class. And got too dark and mosquitos were biting me like crazy so I just hastily put it back together. Just so hard to put those clips back in. I definitely broke one of them. And that long rubber hood piece that belongs to the grille broke. sigh gotta get another one.

lol kowloon, paintmatching looks reli good, but i think what u did with the black cf looks unique and it almsot matches the black as well. so i say even if u dont paintmatch it, leaving it as it is now would not look bad at all!

Don't know yet, I like the look but I don't like my rough draft on it. I'll have to reorder another batch, this time I think I'll order more than 8sq ft. Because I also want to do the door area where the window buttons are. and maybe steering wheel. I also have to get some replacement parts like the rubber thing and some of those honda bitch plugs

did you use the primer 94 that the 3M folks recommend when you installed any of the carbon fiber wrap? I was planning on doing by B-pillars- think it would be super subtle as they are matte black already. Love your car- looks really nice.

ebay carries di-noc..as do a bunch of other companys (decalFX..sticker city)..but its the most expensive...just google di-noc. There are other non 3m brands that are just as good but not quite the price..Ive been on there alot lately..im going to wrap the top of my 04 TL this spring in CF.

Were you the white TSX? I was actually in town that weekend. I remember seeing you around campus last year. But I graduated. You probably might have seen a blue TSX with the same rims as I am.

yeah I was the white TSX parked next to you with the red IVTEC sticker on the front doors and the red center caps. It was cool to see another person in love with their tsx as much as I am.

Looks awesome man! I really wanna add this stuff to my car. However, I am REALLY concerned about resale value. I want this stuff to come off after 3-4 years, with no trouble--as if it were never there. Would this be possible, or is there a long-term downside to this stuff?
