Torque dampener or engine mount
Torque dampener or engine mount
This thread is to figure out if I want to make a torque damper or front engine mount to controll the movement if the engine ( big problem for us, makes shifting and decelerating feel very sloppy) -------------so this is what I've tried so far, it made a huge difference car feels so much firmer with positive throttle sesponse and shifting--------------------
As seen below (link to my build thread post #672) I made a torque damper, It transmits a ton of vibration to the cabin I don't like it, I've tried adjusting it, loosening up the preload, taking all of the preload out untill it does nothing to hold the engine, and it still vibrates

-----------------so my next step is to build a front engine mount that has a neoprene bushing that wont let the engine flop all over like the stock one---------stay tuned----------
PS- if you want one send me $5,000.00 and it will be in the mail in two days LOL

O.K., then let's think about this...
Everybody else mounts their TD at the top and connects to the shock tower. Why not have the torque dampener run up and down. Connect to the front subframe where the front engine mount resides? Come at it at an angle to the motor to form a triangle.
Or is this totally off in la la land as far as thought pattern?

I have no idea what you're talking about (but I have never looked at our motor mounts, nor do I really have a good understanding of the orientation of typical motor mounts) however.. the motor mounts ride a fine line between keeping the motor stabilized, and transferring energy to the body/frame of the vehicle.
So basically we need a polymer or non newtonian material ( like cornstarch and water) that will act fluid under light load and absorb vibration but then when a massive shock/force is applied it stiffens.
