mostly cleared headlight & projectors

So I've had a need to do this for a while and finally got to it this weeked. It's not complete, but the hardest part is done...

I removed the amber turn signal covers in the headlights but left the amber reflectors in, makes it look more "oem", and probably more legal . I like it. I'm now running amber bulbs that look chrome when off to match.

I've also been wanting to put in projector DRLs to get rid of the ugly, imo, reflector bowl style DRLs. I did'nt paint anything, just left it all chrome like stock is, but you can do whatever style you want once you open up headlights (blackout/body color match, etc)

I went down to a place called The Retrofit Source to look at some projectors and shrouds first hand with my headlights dissasembled. Most of them were huge and wouldn't fit. I ended up with their bi-xenon matchbox projectors, they are the smallest ones they have (1.84" lens). They only had one shroud option available that fit them, so no choice there.

They take H1 bulbs, and for now I'm just running halogen bulbs directly to stock connector without the bi-xenon flap/solenoid wired up(no hi beam pattern). I'm still debating on how I'm going to run them, but definitely going with HIDs (already have). Right now I'm thinking to just run them full time, so when low beams are on I will have quad projectors, and still have high beam function as well. I think that'd look cool, but won't know till I try.

Anyway, a few pics installed, maybe I'll post some "in the making" pics up later.

Enjoy!

PS my headlight covers are pretty worn/fogged, I need to get them buffed out or whatever so they are nice and clear again.

DRL on

a few pics of the work:

corner cleared with reflector in place:

had to ream out the stock bulb hole to make it larger. The plastic is actually quite soft and a dremel with a sanding cylinder worked well. No going back now. Also drilled a small hole below to route bi-xenon wires

had to trim the protruding pieces of the socket in the back so the nut that holds the projector could lay flat.

projector mounted, new H1 bulb mount

projector without shroud

projector with shroud

all sealed up and ready to go back on the car

Once again, this site hasn't failed me. I never have to wait long for continuing evidence that this site is at least partially populated by people with way too time on their hands....

nice! i was just talking to slick and ed about this yesterday..

although those matchbox projectors do not have any length in light for the high beams it sure does look good on those headlights..

i am doing a fx-r quad projector set up myself.. but mine has much more intense cutting, brackets, etc..

good job on those

yea they aren't the strongest lights, and their hi-beam pattern seem a bit weak (pattern doesn't go too much higher with flap down). I've never actually used my highbeams in the past though, so I'm not too worried about them.

fx-r's should be nice, but alot of work, I took the easy way out

Installed my HIDs this week. I wired the new projectors to be on full time. I bought 3000k bulbs too incase I wanted to keep the honda style yellow DRL, but I figure with low beams on, might be too many colors: orange turn signals, white/blue low beams, then yellow RL. So I think I'll just keep it how it is.
