Final Drive change possible? AT

2009 TSX specs:
6-speed Manual
1st, 3.267
2nd, 2.040
3rd, 1.429
4th, 1.073
5th, 0.870
6th, 0.686
Reverse, 3.583
Final, 4.764

Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic
1st, 2.652
2nd, 1.614
3rd, 1.082
4th, 0.773
5th, 0.566
Reverse, 2.000
Final, 4.438

Seems like a lot of people lament the tall gearing of the 5AT, as do I especially in second.

Sacrificing fuel economy, anyone with gearbox/diff experience know if it'd be possible to swap the 4.764 final drive from an MT to the AT?

well.. your final drive is your ratio of the last gear in your transmission to your drive shaft/axles.

So basically you are asking if you can swap gears from a MT to an Auto, and that's just not possible because of their inherent mechanical differences in how the transmissions operate.

Thanks, I guess I don't understand enough about how these diffs are laid out in FF cars.

I have some clue on traditional FR cars layout, but have only just started learning about LSDs and planetary gears with multiple clutches in auto gearboxes.

Yeah the planetary gear set is a completely different ball game compared to the std transmission.

And now.. Dual clutch is involved, basically superseding both technologies. Pretty incredible really.
