I was the one who posted a link about their intakes on another thread. To be honest, there's not much of a difference between the brands in terms of design and materials. The HPS intakes are nice because they offer several color options that you can't get with the other brands. However, if you're like me and just want a black colored tube, then get the injen since you can find it for less than the others.

Figured out the brrrrrrp noise at least.
While doing my usual driving I could tell I would lose power, gain some, lose some again... etc, until it evened out on a higher level.

A question for the masses since we are talking about this. Does anyone else with or without the icebox get a fairly big dip in power from 3800-4000 rpm? Especially in second gear. Anyone? I'm wondering if it is the intake, combination of mods or does the stock engine do this anyway? Can't remember prior to modding.

Thanks for the response spdandpwr. Maybe i'll focus on suspension first. I'm really not sure what intake i'd like. If they are all pretty much the same in performance gains i'd love the cheaper one but at the same time that CF lid looks pretty nice and with the design would help from getting hydrolocked like the CAI's can but I don't think i could deal with that flex in the CT-E one.

well, judging by your dyno, it looks like power delivery is rather stagnant at that range (which is right before vtec kicks in), thus it likely gives you the impression of less pull because once vtec kicks in, yo, your power goes up enough so to feel as if there was a dip in power in the revs preceding vtec engagement

quote from mroto:

" first tried taping felt to the back of the lid, but when I took a look at it later on it didn't seem stable, so I removed it and taped little foam stickers to the icebox itself. I think I bought a sheet of 8 nickel-sized stickers and just stuck them on symmetrically. No more braap."

That fluxuation is exactly what I've been experiencing. Can't really say if it's leveled out yet, but the gas mileage has pretty much stabilized. It's also been all over the place last few weeks. When I would hit the gas it would usually drop about 5mpg instantly. ... Pretty much consistent now, even when I accelerate.

That is true. But, I swear I can actually feel a loss in power. In second gear on up. Especially third. Holy crap is it bad. The change in power is audible enough to actually sound like it is shifting up. Weird. I think I need more power.

Well, I guess if I wind up taking this job out west I'll get to decide on a crazy cool car and a shit-ton of debt or I can go all-in on this little car and become the next chivic. >) Maybe the latter but I'm pretty sure I could get a steady supply of chicks of I got the GTR. The TSX hasn't done much for me. lol! As if.

I've gotten chics to dig me with the tsx...especially since I keep it smelling nice and looking squeeky clean. You should tune your car...I bet you'll make a lot of power and it'll feel much better once you lower vtec and level out the afr's and adjust vtc.

And our only option for tuning is the k-pro? Or are there other methods out there?

flashpro, but that's the most robust tuning platform in terms of tuning honda vehicles. Hondata is VERY well regarded in terms of providing maximum tunability.

I've never researched it 100%, only what I read through the forums, but I though there wasn't any tuning options for the 2nd gen TSX. Or is it only certain model years of the 2nd gen?

Just ordered my Icebox for my 09 6spd from THMotorsports. Throwing this out there, I had the same issue with the Comptech Icebox on my 01 Integra GS-R in regards to the horn falling off from the piping. I had to use another clamp as well as steel tape or something of that nature to get it to stay put. All in all the results were great, but was a tad bit disappointed that the issue still persists even now. I'm coming from a 350z/g35 background so I'm not too familiar about this platform, but for the most part I've heard pretty good reviews on this product so I'm taking a chance. Will be installing next weekend so hopefully I don't run into any issues. Will post pix.

ended up taking 3 hours to install the icebox (with ramps). the hardest parts were removing the bumper and putting it back on because there are so many clips. everything was pretty self explanatory but I did buy the 2nd clam to secure the velocity stack at the bottom to the actual piping. Starts fine and runs fine and there is a low growl after 3k rpm but I personally like it. Definitly agree that the car feels like it's breathing better and runs stronger in every gear across the RPM's. Not sure how to post pics on here, advice?

Honestly, even with the tutorials provided I still can't post pics. I guess I'm retarded.

So you came from a 350z/g35? Was it both or just one or the other since I know they are comparable. I am actually considering trading in for the 370Z Nismo as of right now. I'm shopping and test driving every one I get the chance to drive. I like the 370Z a lot but every time I get back in my TSX I feel right at how. Especially on the highway and through the curves. I just know what to expect and how to attack and with the mods I've done it handles wonderfully. Why did you go to a TSX after a sports car? Just curious. PM if you like. I'm quite interested in what made you change your course.

About the Icebox.. Personally, I love it. It is a perfect balance of EVERYTHING. Awesome growl at VTEC ranges and when you couple it with with the Throwdown 2nd Cat delete pipe, holy crap! I had a TSX loaner while I had mine in for service and it was a dog compared to mine. Pretty effective mods if you ask me. But I also haven't had any of the problems with the horn others have mentioned. I did a filter swap recently and it was a piece of cake. I don't know. Maybe some of the units shipped aren't completely identical. But still a very effective mod. Hope you enjoy the Icebox! It was certainly worth the coin.

i enjoy having a back seat again granite i went from my 350z to the genesis to the tsx and i have no regrets i loved my Z the most but fixing all the little stuff was driving me nuts and i love love the room of the tsx.

I have heard people say that the 370z Nismo is too rough/harsh so it's more of a weekend car. I wouldn't mind owning one, though.

Tannis, you got a new filter instead of getting the cleaning kit? Or was it for some other reason? It's almost time to clean mine but I didn't realize you could just get a new filter.

I'm pretty OCD about these things so I always get new filters. I just emailed CTE and told them what I wanted and gave them my shipping address. They'll respond with a quote And then you back your billing info or call and give it to them over the phone. They ship pretty fast too. Good customer service.

Hi all,

I'm considering the Icebox, but I have two main questions:

First, I live in an apartment, and don't have a good area to work on a car, short of a friend's house. Will any places around me (I live in the Seattle area) do the install? And how much would the cost be? I also kinda worry that I'd ruin my bumper by breaking a clip - is that a concern?

Second question is: a friend is saying that a SRI will be better, because it isn't an enclosed box that will collect heat. His point is that an enclosed plastic box just traps the heat. Does he have a point? Is this a concern (will the gains from the Icebox only be felt when the engine has just started, or will they be felt throughout the drive?)

Actually, third question: how much weight do I remove by removing the stock resonator? Are their noticeable gains to be had from that?

Thanks!

I just installed the ice box on my '12 wagon. Totaly worth it. The engine seems to rev quicker to the VTEC engagement point. The best part is the sound, or lack of it during normal driving. However when you get on the throttle the sound has a nice aggressive note.
The instructions could have been better, but for the most part easy to follow.

The 350 was a fun car but I needed something that had better gas mileage, plus a backseat. My cousin actually told me about the TSX so I test drove a special ed at the local dealer and fell in love. I found a certified pre-owned 09 tech with manual tranny relatively close by so I jumped on it.
It's a fun car, especially after I added the CTE intake, however I do wish the Navi system was a little nicer.
I'm trying to keep this as a fun daily driver and really do not want to spend too much money on it. I just want to keep it clean and reliable for daily usage.

I've had my icebox installed for a few months now and it has been great .Right away it revs more freely, more pull in the low end and quiet until I open up the throttle. Then it seemed to settle down a bit. 90% of the time it wouldn't even growl unless i really tried but I don't accelerate hard and i figured i had gotten used to it.

We had a heavy storm recently and I drove 60 mi in pouring rain to work and back then parked in the garage. I started it up 4-5 hrs later and has a noticeably deeper/louder tone even at idle. even a slight press on the accelerator and i can hear the mild growl. I m getting much better response now, more pull from a stop and revs more freely than ever before.

I pulled off the top of the ice box and found a small puddle under the filter that ran all the way down the tube. It looks like excess oil that just drained from the filter, I don't think any water got in there. Pulled the filter off and its completely dry inside. Everything else looks secure.

After reading this thread I'm thinking it might be the horn that came loose with out any extra clamp to hold it to the ice box. Any thoughts on what else it could be? If this is all that is wrong, is it really necessary to re secure the lower horn? The sound is still mild and i like the way it drives. Just want to be sure I won't damage the car.

Thanks

Yeah, my filter was soaked in oil when I got the kit. The rubber ring had so much on it that it would slide off the horn when I tightened the clamp. I cleaned it off and problem solved.

As to the additional clamp for the scoop, I don't think it's needed if you install the bracket correctly. Look at the pictures robpp posted. The air box is fiberglass that will crack if you clamp down on it too hard.

Just cleaned my filter with the Uni Air Filter cleaner that CT sells. When I took out the filter, I noticed it was pretty dirty. There were dead flies, leaves, and a ton of dust and dirt sitting in the box. While I cleaned off the filter, I also cleaned out the inside of the intake. Let everything dry overnight, re-oiled and installed. To me the car feels a lot better to drive.

Just got mine installed with the help of my cousin! Took about 2 1/2 hours with the installation of the Aero front bumper spoiler. Instructions were a little difficult to follow and ran into some problems taking the battery tray off. Nonetheless, love the airbox! This is definitely what I wanted as far as keeping the car sounding stock at normal acceleration and transforming into a mean beast when getting on the accelerator. Great product and I recommend it to anyone. Really compliments the engine bay!

I see some of you had mentioned some kind of growl ... what might cause these growls are they normal characteristic of this product. Comparing with the stock air intakes I haven't herd any growl??

as in like a double sided tape sticker?? also after reading all of these comments i thought you didn't have to tune the engine after adding this intake..?..sounds like you need to with these comments....
