Thoughts on a TSX CarPuter.

I'm getting really sick of my non-tech TSX not having any features at all like GPS, backup cam, etc. I've seen available headunits such as the one from the honda spiror. Problem with this is it will not show radio or AC controls, and $400 is rather pricey for what you get . Another option of course is just to get the bezel and an aftermarket radio.

My thoughts were to install a 7" touchscreen display in the storage area under the radio. such as this one. I've already disassembled the dash and test-fitted a non touch display that i had laying around, and it does fit. I was thinking to either use a netbook with a boot SSD (for quick boot times), external GPS, and external HDD. Mount the netbook underneath the pasenger seat (with a DAC), GPS either in the glovebox, behind the radio or somewhere else in the dash. Should be easy enough to route wires under the center console, and it can all be powered through the 12v under the armrest. Backup camera can also be added through the screen's second input, or using a USB one on the netbook (although i don't need one so i probably won't bother). The screen can be had for $60-70, netbook for $100ish, gps for $20... Much cheaper than the other options with possiblity of added features such as internet, streaming vid / music, apps, etc.

Also rather than a netbook, a raspberry pi could be used, which only costs $30.

The only cons to this setup i can see is that steering wheel controls won't work, and the screen placement might not be ideal (but there is nowhere else really to put).

Anyways, wondering what you guy's thoughts are on this and if anybody has done something similar. Another thought was just to install a tablet in the dash, but i don't think it will fit anywhere.

Enjoy this shitty drawing where i try to show my idea. I have all these parts laying around except the touchscreen, so i'll probably start screwing around with this soon.
