Which speakers to get without changing amp?

Looking to replace my front speakers, (tweeter and woofer). I don't want to change my amp though. I already have some coaxial polks in the rear deck, and i think i have a blown speaker or tweeter in the front. So what are you guys running on stock amp?

Honestly, IMHO, I would buy some nice component speakers for the front, ditch the rear speakers and buy a real amplifier to run the front. It will sound SO much better!!!!

I would listen to Niebur.
he's a serious audiophile.

he's correct with saying that the rear speakers are just for fill.
Dont spend money on upgrading those.

I could give you some pricing via PM, but I would look at Image Dynamics CXS v.2 (which are above your price range) or CTX65cs, which should be right in line.

You could always go with Hybrid Audio as well. The Imagine Series is nice for the money.

These would be the 2 best options in your price range. Almost anything you add will need a 3/4" trim ring to fit the opening and possibly the hole opened a little in the door.

Any set will sound much better with more power and let you get your full money's worth.

I'll have a look at what you mentioned. Would i need a new amp with any of these setups? And if i do how do i wire it on the TSX and does it mess with stock HU functionality?
EDIT: also looks like some of these might interfere with the window? or is that only an issue for the rear doors?

just make sure you roll the windows down when you install, more than likely with aftermarket speakers you are going to need a spacer ( i think i used 1" spacers) for installation of the woofers.

New speakers will def sound better, there is a risk of the signal being sent from the stock amp not sounding right with your speakers, for instance im running JL C3-650's and some songs are quite treble heavy. With a little more money put into an amp and better gauge wire it will sound 20 times better.

EDIT: also you mentioned rear doors, is your gen2 a tech package?

My gen2 is a non tech, but i know the windows hitting the speaker is an issue for the rear doors so i assumed it was for the fronts also.

So i had a look at the Ctx65cs, and the Hybrid Imagine. the Ctx65cs look good i suppose, but i cant really find much info in the Hybrid Imagines, or price/where to buy. Do you have any more suggestions? Also maybe something slightly cheaper. What do you think about the Alpine Type R that another member mentioned?

Non-techs don't have speakers in the rear doors (atleast in canada) but we do have speakers in the rear deck. I am in a similar situation to you, I wanna replace all 4 and add 2 to the rear doors but it will be a costly job.

I don't understand why you guys want to put so many speakers in different places in your car?

What are you hoping to accomplish doing this?

I dont! i only want to replace my front speakers / tweeters! i was using the rear doors as an example for the window hitting the speaker issue. Anyways still looking for suggestions on what speakers to run for my front doors. So far suggestions have been Alpine Type R and the Image Dynamics (Although not sure if the image dynamics will fit... they look huge)

Also, i have a set of Infiniti Kappa 60.7CS laying around.... are they any good?

You can make almost ANY 6.5" speaker fit by opening the speaker hole a little more with a sawz-all and a 3/4" trim ring.

Image Dynamics, Hybrid Audio Technologies, Dynaudio (if you want to spend some coin and want AWESOME sound). Again, any of these would sound much better with an amplifier.

I was thinking that they looked too deep though and would interfere with the window, but maybe not... i don't really know. For the dynaudio i don't even see a price but if they use it in bugatti i imagine its really expensive....

What do you suggest for around $150? Also i still don't want to change the amp right now... maybe later.

i suggest you upgrade you stock amp... you will have a lot of dimming on the music, meaning when you put the radio up on some song you are going to hear like if the speaker is loosing power.

Alright...well how would i do that? where is the stock amp on the TSX located? And then i'm going to have to run a power wire from the battery though the firewall, right? Also i have an amp from my previous install, an Alpine V-Power MRP-T220. Is it any good?

An earlier discussion mentioned that replacing the speakers can be tricky because the factory amp has DSP settings that send a modified signal that is specific to the output capability of the cheap-ass OEM speakers throughout the car.

So replacing the speakers may not improve the sound because they are not getting a quality signal with wide dynamic range. They are still getting a signal that has been run through factory equalization.

The solution, and this is where I get fuzzy fully understanding it, is to get a summing device that takes the pre-equalized signals from the different speaker wires from the factory amp, then "sums" them into a clean signal that then feed into your new amp, and then onto your new speakers.
