Nav Screen Glare
Nav Screen Glare
im aware someone pointed it out, that the screen somtimes has a huge glare. i was jsut wondering..would sticking on one of those dark transparent stickers help reduce glare?
I got the information from www.techinfo.honda.com. You have to pay a small fee to access it but its all there. In the UK Recalls and TSB's are on the actual Honda site, so you may find them somewhere on the Acura site.
has anyone had this pad (77255-TL0-305) installed by the dealer? I'm curious what this looks like installed. I now notice quite severe glare at various times on both the NAV screen and the instrument gauge "screen"/cover. I was going to take pictures of it when its really bad and send them to Acura.
I think the pad is thin foam, obviously non reflective. I'm going to mod my car a put some thin black alcantara both under the sat nav screen and also along the underneat hof the instrument binnacle as this suffers with refelction too. Crazy that Honda overlooked this. I did comment that it was a great place to put the nav screen over the previous model as it would not suffer from glare, doh!

It's still better than most manufacturers 1st attempt screen locations. It's like...yeah a non-reflective mat would be cool, but not a deal breaker, I just wait until I take a turn one way or the other and I'm good.
It's basically a black vinyl mouse pad that sits in at the bottom of that opening. There's no instalation. It just sits there.
It's free under warranty. Just tell them you have the glare and want that pad. There's no installation. Just go pick it up and throw it on there.
is there also a part for the non-nav TSX. (the display is smaller than the Nav version)...There are many times during the afternoon sun here in Dallas, that the glare on the information screen (same spot the nav screen is) makes it impossible to read.
Not tracking streets, but can't tell what radio station is as I flip or any other info on this display.
Thanks

Interesting update on glare... spoke with Acura HQ and there is a technical service bulletin (TSB) out on this issue (#08-048) that apparently is called Audio / Nav Systems - Glare off Display Lens.
A couple dealers I talked to had no idea this esisted, so gave this TSB number to one of them and he confirmed it exists. Going to get the piece later this week (have to drop into the dealer service). It's covered under warrantee, so no cost.
I'll update later on results.

Just FYI, this has been fixed for the 2010 model year.
From TOV
3.5-liter, VTEC® V-6 engine, producing 280 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque
Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission (Although similar in design to the transmission available with the 4-cylinder engine, the transmission mated to the V-6 engine is more robust to handle the substantial increase in horsepower and uses different gear ratios to take advantage of the V-6’s abundant torque.)
Sport-tuned exhaust system with dual outlet tips
Upgraded charging system with a heavy-duty battery
Split five-spoke, 18 X 8-inch diameter aluminum wheels
Michelin Pilot P235/45R18 all-season tires
Exclusive suspension tuning with special rate front springs and recalibrated dampers
Expanded use of Electronic Control Mount (ECM) system to control Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)
Active Sound Control (ASC) noise cancellation system
Upgraded braking system (Special rear brake pads are used that deliver improved stopping power. In addition, the V-6 model makes use of a larger brake master cylinder, a revised pedal ratio, and a new brake booster to deliver more performance-minded braking feel.)
Revised front fascia opening for improved engine cooling
Strut system for easy hood opening
V-6 emblem on rear trunk lid
Easier-to-read Navigation screen with reduced glare compared to the 2009 TSX (Technology Package—also on I-4 model)

okay... went to dealer today and got the "pad" as part of TSB #08-048
- no charge for this piece (covered under warrantee) - service rep said would have cost $36 (wow!)
- had to bring car in for this "service" but was quick in/out (I called the service dept before coming in)
- it is as others have described like a thin mouse pad. Leather like on one side and cloth like on the other
- just sits on the dash area below the Audio / Nav screen
Results so far:
- Not perfect, but does take a totally unreadable display and makes it at least readable
- I do not have Nav, so this result is fine for me, but not sure about the Nav guys
Thoughts:
- I wouldn’t go out of my way to the dealer to get this part
- You could easily make something yourself out of some non-reflective felt type fabric
A couple of quick pics:
Orginal picture without anti-glare pad (heavy glare that makes screen impossible to read):

I can't believe they are giving this away for free, the problem should never have existed in the first place, are they blind???
In the UK we can't get this part so I am going to use some black alcantara both under the NAV screen and also along underneath the instruments as the problem exists there too.
From the photos above it look like an afterthough, which it is! Dreadful

well, i guss thats a bit better. you have to take ur car in service for this? cant u just ask them to order it and just get it yourself? i mean..since u just place it right infront of the screen i mean...who cant do that? lol
Filling out the paper work took more time than putting the pad in the car...I think the service guy wanted to see the issue/improvement himself so suspect that is why i had to pull into service. (it took 10 minutes from start to finish)
I'm not exactly super impressed with the solution... it is an after thought and as LuvMyTSX says, marginal. However, while not perfect, it does make the display at least readable when it wasn't before.
Hopefully, they truly have fixed this with the 2010s

I got my A1 service 2 weeks ago, called ahead of time to get a loaner and told them over the phone that I heard about a Nav screen glare issue TSB (Total BS on my part, dont know if it was a TSB or not) and asked for the fix. They serviced the car and put that mouse pad looking thing on the dash. It doesnt really help.
The thought of putting a mouse pad on my dash just makes the overall feel of the car seem cheap to me. While this doesn't annoy me yet I am sure it will... That said, has anyone simply tried to put an anti-glare film over the window? I actually installed this in my parents house when they first moved in. They have these huge windows with no blinds in the top of a hallway, at a certain time the sunlight hit the TV and you could not watch anything. I installed the film and while there was still a glare we could actually see the TV again.
We got some big rolls of it at Lowes. Most hardware stores should have it. I'm actually going to visit my parents in PA this weekend and think we have some of the rolls left in the basement. If we do I'll give it a try.
I don't even think the girl is that bad but I want to get the Nav Tool and then it would most likely annoy me.

Newb here. Have a 2009 TSX with this problem. The issue is the SHADE design...it does not project out from the dash far enough, so that when sun comes down vertically and hits in front of the screen, it washes out the nav screen with glare. The problem is with the dash design--a longer shade projecting out over the top of the screen would have fixed the problem. Classic example of designers not thinking about engineering, and testers not noticing something obvious, or more likely, accountants not allowing the problem to get fixed before the car hits the dealership because only a few hundred people might notice. The mouse pad "fix" is pathetic, really.
