Iphone connection USB & 12V for charging?
Hey guys, I just got a 09' TSX (base) about two weeks ago now. Previously I had a g3 TL with the NAV, and needless to say I miss my NAV. So I've been using my iPhone as my navigation. The issue I'm running into is though is that I want to have the iphone connected to the USB aux for music and run the NAV simaltanously. The problem with this is, that it destroys the battery life. I'm thinking about trying to use this Y cable listed below to plug the iPhone direct to USB aux but also to the 12V power inlet. Has anyone else done this? Any issues? I'm not entirely sure this will work, but was curious if anyone else had anything to suggest/recommend. Thank you guys!

The USB plug on the car should charge your phone simultaneously while running the navigation and music from 1 cord. At least my 2010 charges both the iPhone 4/5 whenever plugged in.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I should've mentioned this in my intital post (oops!)---mine does simaltanously charge while doing the other items however, it appears as though I'm draining the battery faster than the USB aux can charge it. From what I understand (which could be totally wrong) the 12v charge would give it a more solid charge.

I get what your saying now. I don't think that is a safe method of charging your phone. The iPhone is rated for 5v of power, anything more is likely to damage/ fry the components. Even if the iPhone is smart enough to draw the necessary amount of power, connecting 12v to the phone is not safe.
The only way of technically charging it faster safely that I can think of is by using the 3.5mm jack/ bluetooth for the audio and then using an iPad car charger. The iPad charger is rated at 5v with 2amps, whereas the iPhone charger is only rated at 1 amp. This way the voltage is the same but just a higher current. However, I don't know if this method has proven to work either.
Additionally, I'm not even sure if the cars supplied USB cord even charges at 1 amp. But I used to believe that my iPhone charged quicker on a stand alone cigarette lighter charger, rather than the car's supplied USB port. So to play it safe I'd recommend picking up a 2amp iPad charger from the store and then returning it if it doesn't charge any faster. The box will usually say if it 2 amps or compatible with the iPad. Also go for a branded charger, while cheap I've had many issues with the chinese knockoff chargers. Lastly, keep in mind that if you connect using the 3.5mm jack then you wont be able to control the music through the steering wheel. Although, using bluetooth you can still be able to control the songs.

Burning Brakes
I'm curious to know which app(s) are running that drain the battery so much. I usually have several open and my iphone still charges.

I'm using Motion X GPS Drive and then I'm streaming a radio feed thru an app. It's not that it isn't charging, it just seems as though it doesn't charge very fast.
