iPhone 5 Compatability with 2009 TSX Tech Pckge

Hi all I am new to the site so I am not sure if this has already been discussed. Any help is much appreciated.

I recently bought an iPhone 5, upgraded from a 4S. When I went in my car to check that the new lightning cable works with the USB port in my console of the 2009 TSX I was very disappointed to see that it does not work. Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone else been able to fix this problem?

I am looking for any help whatsoever since I could not possibly be more disappointed in this. Apple really screwed me with this nonsense and now I am out a few hundred dollars and do not have a car that is compatible with my phone. No music. No contacts. No nothing. Absolutely ridiculous.

You can use the search bar above^^ to find more about this. Other TSXer's says it works fine.

Your not totally screwed... there is still bluetooth streaming and good old 3.5mm jack.

What are you trying to do, besides potentially charging your phone, that would need you to plug it in to the usb port? I've owned several iPhones (including the 5) and never once plugged it in to my car. Not being critical, just a question. Maybe I'm missing some key feature.

My iPhone 5 works like my previous iPhones in my 2011 tech. It didn't load anything the first time, so maybe try unplugging it and plugging it back in?

If it still doesn't work, you could always try keeping the same 30-pin usb cable and the lightning -> 30 pin converter. Not sure if it'll help, but it's worth a shot if un-plugging/plugging the usb cable doesn't work.

My 5 works fine in my '12 TSX tech via bluetooth (well, as well as the crappy Acura bluetooth interface works with any phone) and also charges fine when the Lightning cable is plugged into the console port.

I plug the phone into the USB in order to get my iPod and songs to show on my Navi screen. Thats the key functionality that I am looking for. Charging worked just fine, but it was telling me the accessory was not supported.

If I connect via bluetooth do my songs still show on the screen? I never bothered with bluetooth in the TSX, maybe I am making a big mistake by not? Whats the best method for music and phone integration in your guys opinion?

well you should def use the bluetooth for talking on the phone. I also use it for siri. I can use siri on my phone to send text messages over my cars speakers when it's connected to bluetooth. This to me is amazing as texting and driving is crazy dangerous.

I have no idea whether your song information will show up connected to bluetooth. I sometimes listen to pandora over bluetooth and it does not.

The iPhone 5 works the same with your TSX as all the other iPhones, including charging and music.

The only music through the USB that has been reliable is music from the actual Apple installed Music app no others have worked for me.

I've use bluetooth streaming for all other apps like Spotify and such and no song information will never show on the screen in our car sadly but the forward and backward buttons still work over bluetooth.

My 5 doesn't even connect automatically. I have to turn off bluetooth and turn it back on every time I want to listen to my music streaming. Pain in the ass.

Angry iphone 5 in 2009 TSX

I have the same exact issue. I am wondering if it is something wrong with the USB port in the car then. I use this to charge my phone when I am using the GPS in the car or if I want to use it like an iPod connection so I can play music and have it appear on the display. Sure bluetooth works but that isn't going to charge my phone. Sometimes when I play music it will stop and start flashing "UNSUPPORTED" on the digital panel. This too happened with my iPhone 4 ever since I started updating the iOS from the original that came on the phone. I think Acura needs to update the firmware in some way for those of us that paid for a tech package. It is bad enough that it doesn't sync with the address book on an 09 and you have to manually program the phonebook.
