High pitched tone
High pitched tone
Hey guys... posted the thread below a few days ago in the general problems area... figured I'd post here too. I have a Garmin GPS... someone suggested to try unplugging it and see what happens (makes sound with GPS off but still plugged into 12v outlet). I thought possibly bluetooth could be causing it. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Just bought the car a few weeks ago and have already had some rattles fixed. Now I'm hearing a high pitched tone and have no idea where its coming from. Happens about every 30 seconds and last for 2-3 seconds at a time. Seems to only happen when the car is moving, not a stop lights. Sounds very much like a tone you'd hear while getting a hearing test... high pitched and faint. Thought I was hearing things until my 4 yr old asked me what he was hearing. Noticed it off and on a few days ago, but today it was consistently happening during a 45 min drive. Seems like its on the interior, maybe through the speakers, but can't really tell. Anyone have thoughts?

Taking it in tomorrow morning. I'm guessing it won't make the sound when I bring it in... just to be a pain. Someone else posted under another forum that he's heard it too in his car and he's taking it to the dealer as well...
im assuming you have the tech package? i hope otherwise this theory wont work, butthen again, it is a theory.
With active noise cancellation systems the speakers are always running. And I've heard this with some noise cancelling headphones before as well but if for any reason the mics pick up any interference or malfunction in any way it can cause the speakers to produce a harmonic or frequency that isn't really there.
And I doubt your ac compressor cycling will make this kind of noise.

The audio system is always on to support the BT and voice command systems with or without active noise control.
Let’s start with this, is the GPS connected to the audio system via BT or an AUX cable?
Do you get the noise when the GPS is unplugged from the 12v outlet?

Ok, and just for my own knowledge, that's true even without the tech package? I do not have the tech package. The GPS is not connected to the audio system. It's a Garmin 260, simply plugged into the 12V outlet and it uses its own internal speaker. Didn't notice if the noise happened with the GPS plugged in or not. It currently unplugged bc the suction cup keeps popping off the windshield in this car. Haven't heard in the noise for the past two days.
