it's been 99 for a while now.

i'd only consider a nav update after maybe 2 years...i doubt roads change that much that you'd need a update every year.

Correct. They update by region. The DC area hasn't been updated since 2007 although a few new towns were added.

Why do you think that?

Just got mine in the mail today. I think $99 is a great price. They want 200 bucks for our suburban!

The roads around here (NoVa - Northern VA) change almost quarterly.

Interesting idea, I am coming up on my second oil change so maybe I will ask them when I go in.

The roads change but the maps don't.

Not all of the US is mapped for nav purposes yet and you won't get lots of guidance in out of the way places.

The priority for the map makers (NAVTEQ et-al) is to map everything first and then worry about updates.

The priority for updates is larger population areas (like NoVa) where there recently was lots of building that has since subsided (not true for NoVa)

The DC are mats are identical to those from 2006 - driving south on 495 around Tyson's will get you rerouted to 50 then right back on 495 - just like it was in 2006.

NAVTEQ used to publish a map showing what areas of the US were updated in the most recent release but they quit doing that because nobody bought updates.

For the NoVa area, the last updates in 2010 added Germantown to the 20874 zip (was Darnestown previously) and added street numbers to Paris Va. - both important if you frequent those two areas but not useful for most.

POIs do get updated more frequently but is it worth $99 to find out where they added a McDonalds?

Can anyone with the latest upgrade tell me if the Brambleton and South Riding areas have been updated? I'd like to have my street on the map!
thanks

Give us a street name (either your street or some other street) that wasn't on a map previously. I can tell you that Ashburn hasn't been updated as only part of Red Admiral is on the map and that street has been done for 5 or 6 years.

You can also go to NAVTEQ and submit a report for a missing street.

Thanks ceb. Can you try Nickens Place? Technically in Ashburn so it may not have been updated. I'll keep my fingers crossed...

If you change the disk, do your stored addresses remain or do you have to reenter them? Sorry, new to disk-style GPS, but just bought 09 TSX tech (which I'm loving btw).

Also, maybe I should start a new thread for this question, but I've noticed that the navigation has me take roads that I know don't necessarily quicken the drive. Is there a way to have the navigation direct you by, shortest distance, least amount of roads taken, fast time, freeways only, etc.?
