Window Tinting

Hi guys, few questions about getting my car tinted. I just purchased a CBP 09 TSX with ebony interior. I want to get the car tinted because I know it's going to get hotter than hell inside the car in the summer. I have received a quote from a reputable tint installer from my area, $185 to do the back three windows, $225 to do the back three and the front 2. The installer uses lumar tint and offers a lifetime warranty. Good deal or not?

The other issue is determining what % to get. I live in Jersey, so the the law is I can do whatever % I want on the back three windows, have to cut out the tint around the 3rd brake light, and can't do anything on the front two windows. Jersey is pretty lax with the front two as long as its not extremely black. So I was thinking about doing either 15% on the back window and 35% all around or 15% on the back, 35% on the back two windows, and 50% on the front two. Does anyone have pictures of this on their CBP TSX? Just trying to get an idea of what it would look like.

Thanks!

I live in Jersey too....and they are not THAT lax about tint on the front windows, at least in my experience. I had 35% all around with quartz interior and got pulled over JUST for tint. Cop let me off with a warning since I never had a ticket before, but to avoid the hassle again, I got the front tint removed.

With ebony interior on your car, your tint will look a bit darker than whatever % you get, so keep that in mind. Maybe you live where cops don't care about tint, but that is not really the case where I am (Somerset/Hunterdon County).

50% on the front windows might make it a bit better, but again keep in mind your dark interior will make the windows seems darker.

Also, if you plan on modding the car at all, the tint will just draw the attention of more cops in addition to your mods. Just a kind warning.

FWIW, I paid $225 3 years ago for my all-around tint (Madico brand).

You're probably right, its not worth getting 35% in the front and then having to take it off. I'm not planning on modding the car, but I still dont want to draw attention from the cops.

I would like to see what 50% looks like, anyone have any pictures of 50% on the front and 35% on the back?

I believe there might be pics of that over in the 1G section if you just want to take a look over there.

I paid $180 for my tint 20% all around and did a 50% front windshield, 5% visor, and another 15% on the moonroof totaling $250.

I got all 4 windows and rear windshield LLumar tinted at 35% here in Atlanta. This is the 3rd car that I've ever had tinted and has been my favorite. The film looks super sharp!

I paid $229 total.

I paid 180 to get my windows tinted all around (20%) and had the front windshield tinted 35%. No problems as far as cops (knocks on wood), but in Miami people usually drive around with 5%-10% no problem. I'll post pics of my car later.

It's illegal and I'd venture to guess probably a bit dangerous as well.

It's not dangerous. I had 35% on my old windshield till it cracked it was perfect, even in the hardcore rain at night i could see just fine, and the only reason i went to 50% this time was because i went a 5% strip hanging 7inches. Plus I had a straight 20% all the way around 350z with windshield 20% and that was dark as $4!7 you could not make a face from outside looking thought the front.

I think he meant dangerous in the simple fact that you are adding a layer of film that hinders light visibility through your main point of vision as a driver...

Front tints are hard to notice, and they don't obstruct your vision that much if at all (metallic tints are very visible). From the outside it'll usually look like it has a lot of glare more than it being super dark. Either way I prefer all six windows being tinted, not a fan of driving around with my business open to the public.

Don't you have to retint the windshield every year? At least in Maine the inspection sticker is applied to the windshield. And they take the old off with a razor blade
