Looks like there is enough room under the hood to fit so why didnt they do that. If someone had $$ to burn can it be done?

 

Because they figured they made a mistake by building that engine, and don't want to waste more money building any more than enough for the RDX, which has to run it's model's course, :-)!
'Cause obviousely, the next RDX won't be having a 4 cylinder in it. Right Acura?

From what I understand, a turbo is coming.

 

My understanding is that the turbo motor would not fit actually. Furthermore, even if it did, it would put the TSX close to TL price territory - which would defeat the TSX's purpose. If it's gonna cost someone $35k to get into a loaded turbo TSX, they might as well go for a TL. The TSX is adequatley powered as it currently is as far as I'm concerned. If you want the feel of more power, you could get a manual tranny like I did. Or if you really must have 230 or 240 hp in a compact sedan, you could have sprung for a BMW 3 series.

 

if you want power at the tsx price range you should of gotten the gto. i just herd there having a promotion with the gto, free transmition problems. everytime a car has hi horsepower + low price= shitty interior and everything else. more power in the tsx would result in price cut backs in other areas of the car. and i think the tsx is best the way it is right now. tell me one person thats been in your car and didn't tell you how sweet the dashboard looks.

 

right, and if someone is going to spend to get an rs4, they might as well get an a6

oh, and if someone is going to spend to get an m3, they might as well get a 525i

and don't forget, if its going to cost $$ to get a loaded is-f, they might as well get a gs300

It sure does look like an a$$load of room for a turbo and a top mount. I haven't looked under the hood of the RDX to see if the head design is a quattro port or a mono bungwhateverthehell it's called on the TSX (no exhaust manifold).

Rumor has it that if Acura makes a TSX type S, it probably will have the RDX engine...

 

I don't know if you've noticed that Honda doesn't really do that absurdly overpowered model thing the manufacturers you mentioned there do. The Honda ethos is all about building nice cars heavily influenced by practicality. They just don't throw development money at m3/rs6/is-f type projects. Even their dedicated sports cars (NSX, s2000) are pretty reserved by every one else's standards.

Your analogies just don't translate to Honda at all.

 

From those that I talk to inside Acura, they are very disappointed with the Turbo engine. It did not meet expectations on most fronts, but most noticeably in fuel economy. To put this in the TSX, they would need to figure out how to route air to the intercooler and I don't think a hood scoop would be appropriate for a TSX. This is assuming it even fits in it's current configuration,which I doubt. They'll need to use the V-6 transmission because none of the 2WD 4 cylinder trannys can handle the torque.

Of course they'll have to do many of the same things if/when the Diesel comes, or when they go with the V6 option as rumored. But the Diesel is viewed as the future and is already engineered (for Europe) and the V-6 is viewed as the 'refined' choice to give more options to the line.

 

No one is asking for overpowered TSX. When it was introduced to US market in 2003. It has decent power with respect to USDM V6 Accord. Now TSX has grown in weight and size and USDM Accord has moved in V6 power and torque to 3.5L. Even 4 cylinder USDM Accord has grown in power to 190 in EX form with regular fuel from 160bhp in 2003. and USDM 4 cylinder Accord is lighter than TSX.
So whats the whole logic behind TSX staying the same 5 years after its introduction when USDM Accord has moved on with three engine choices and power?. I know there is other improvements in TSX in 2009 but competition has moved on far ahead in power and fuel economy department. Atleast there should be V6 optional choice. Honda does not have that much experiance in turbos like Audi/BMW.

 

Was being sarcastic! But I got no beef with the engine. It's just in the wrong car!

 

Oh, ok, gotcha. I thought I had seen you or someone who had an RDX post a complaint about the engine, and I was curious.

On another note, it seems like with the ginormous grill we have, that some flat ducting could be made to channel air through the grill to the top mount like the RDX without making a big goofy hood.

I agree a scoop would be out of character, IMHO.
