Valve problems or normal?

Valve problems or normal?
I have a 2009 TSX with 61,000 miles. The valves rattle quite loudly when taking off slowly or with some speed. The dealer says that's normal with these cars, and they can adjust them for around $450. I am running midgrade to prem gas with no difference. I keep the oil changed every 3K-5K miles. This is my first experience with an Acura; and I am worried about having an engine failure early. I thought these cars were long lasting, reliable cars; but I am beginning to wonder. I have the extended warranty through Acura / Honda, but they say it does not cover it. I am surprised to see 'ADJUST / CHECK VALVES' printed as a checkbox to check on each page of the Acura's maintenance journal. That seems kinda weird. Is this normal? Any ideas or help would be apprec..
Thanks

The owner's manual suggests checking and adjusting the valves "when noisy." Normally that occurs at higher mileage (and 60k miles is apparently not unusual) but the 'noise' can also be from the purge valve or the injectors.
Valve adjustment is part of maintenance and not covered under warranty unless there is mechanical issue with the valve train. If you (and your dealer) feels it needs a valve adjustment, then why not get it done. If it turns out to be another issue, you will no doubt get a goodwill refund.
In the meantime have you had a second opinion from another dealer? Or take it to an Indy and get their opinion. Shop for prices, too.
You can do it yourself if you're a DIYer. Do a search here under "I4 valve adjustment" (or just Google "Acura TSX I4 valve adjustment") and you'll get plenty of info, including others who have had valve adjustments done at various mileage intervals.
