TSX Switchblade key
TSX Switchblade key
Hey guys,
I'm from Australia and was just wondering does anyone here know where I can pick up a new heap TSX Switchblade key cheaply?
The cheapest i found was $117 from Acura of Petoria but they used to be only $30 a few years back
. Sadface".
I have an Australian Accord Euro 09 in Milano Red but they only have the regular keys here, not the cool switchblades!
Thanks all

well we dont get milano red so its only fair!
lol but seriously i think 117 might be the cheapest ive seen around...i just looked on ebay and they were asking the same. Cut keys are cheaper and you might want to look into that but I am not sure if you can only get the key part of the switchblade so you can re-cut it.

It depends on who you ask. Layman or enthusiast?
Most enthusiasts will probably put it on a tier between a normal toyota and the big dogs. I love Acura and i love the brand and I want to defend them but truthfully their current lineup doesnt do much to inspire confidence. The TSX and TL are fantastic cars for the money and the TL is a surprisingly solid AWD performance sedan. Until Acura gets back in the game with a real sports car (anyday now, HSV-10, any day.) and a real high end luxury barge (sorry RL, you are no Legend) then they will still be in the doghouse in the minds of many.
Yes, the mere mention of the word Toyota is enough to put some car enthusiasts into a deep coma, but atleast they had the balls to bring the IS-F to bear, and then they grew super balls and unleashed the beast of the east LF-A. Cannot argue with 9k Redline. Cannot.

i'm interested in making a duplicate key also, on ebay they sell pre-cut keys for much cheaper, but that just means they have to either recut or replace the blade of the key. does anyone else know how much it runs to to reprogram a used/brand new key?
You can buy uncut keys off ebay but you're still going to need a new chip and need the key cut to your vehicle. The actual key is easy to get...I remember people getting it over at drive accord but the crappy part is paying the money to get the key cut AND if you're getting a duplicate key, the chip that's needed to start the car.
It's funny how much I've come to the RL start system. I'd always walk around with the FOB in my pocket and touch the door handle and start the car. Now with the 2011 TSX, I have to "unlock" the car with the FOB and insert the key into the ignition.
I figured the 2005RL tech would have made it to the 2011 TSX.

Also I am not sure if the remote will work with the euro accord.

The RL doesn't have a push button persay, but it's the same concept. You leave the key in your pocket and there is a plastic knob you turn to start the car. If you valet it you remove the plastic knob and they can insert the valet key into the slot and turn it like the TSX.
I would wait for the MY11/12 Accord Euro's to come out in Australia where they supposedly have the switchblade key. Then you can check the parts department and get it done that way? Probably not cheaper as most parts in Australia are usually pricey..
Got my key today!
Called up local Honda dealerships, they wanted to charge $80 to program and set the immobiliser up! I talked to one of the service managers and he's like, I'm not going to charge you for a 10 second job. So I ended up getting it programmed and setup for free!
The blade was cut for $35, other locksmiths offered to cut it for free because they hadn't seen a Honda key before but if they stuffed it up it's not there fault.
Do your guys switchblade keys wobble a tiny bit at the top when the key is up? I noticed this when I recieved the blank key...

Well when the key is out it moves a tiny bit when you push it side to side.
So your key doesn't move at all when it's out?
When mines straight out, it can be moved to the left a tiny bit. Though that's only when you push, when you shake it around the key stays straight.

Keys are numbered 1 & 2.
The car recognizes which key has unlocked the door and adjusts the seat memory settings that coordinate with said numbered key.
For instance my wife has key 1, seat setting 1, etc. So when her key is used to unlock the door all stays the same. When I use key 2, the seat moves when I unlock and open the door to my prefered settings.

Ohh I see =o So.. if I purchased that key, I... have myself that blade key with that setting thingyo? They're 80ish dollars + I gotta get it programmed for my car? And.. shipping or something?
Edit: What I'm trying to ask is, I'm buying another key for $80-ish dollars?

Ahh yes, good point. Wasn't thinking about the Euro being spec'd differently. Standard feature over here.

If you have memory seats I assume this will work. Not sure about radio/navigation settings though. That could be North America or Euro spec only.
Don't worry about memory seats, they don't autoset with our ADM Euro.
Memory Seat 1 & 2 isn't really a concern for us, just get the cheapest one you can find.
Winding down/up windows and sunroof remotly with the key doesn't work with our Euro's aswell.

Not sure about winding up but down worked on Euros CL9/CU2,
I hope I have the same luck. I picked up a 2010 TSX Base and the Driver 1 key buttons are beat. I picked up a new driver 1 key on eBay for $30. No problem swapping the electronics. The dealer owes me one as they kept me waiting a half hour because they made my appointment before they opened. Then, when I went to pick up the car, my cup holder trim was not fully installed.

I have 4 switchblade keys, 2 for the TSX and two for my Mazda3. The Mazda3 keys have always wobbled and the TSX keys ever since I had them they've wobbled. I used to think it was a problem on my set of keys for the Mazda3 but I researched it and found nobody else complaining and no way to fix it so ever since then I haven't messed or thought about it and nor do I think about it today.
here's a link for just a switchblade shell
